Bi-directional communications for vehicle and virtual game situations
A method, includes transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle, wherein the virtual aircraft is presented through a head mounted see-through optical system, transmitting an instruction to present a target lock indication to the pilot, receiving an indication that the pilot has initiated launch of a weapon from the vehicle's weapons system, wherein the indication of launch initiation is communicated to the simulation computer system and the simulation computer system generates a launched weapon, transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image to the pilot representing the launched weapon and transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image graphically illustrated as an explosion based at least in part on an estimated intersection of the virtual weapon and virtual aircraft by the simulation computing system.
1 . A method, comprising:
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle, wherein the virtual aircraft is presented through a head mounted see-through optical system;
transmitting an instruction to present a target lock indication to the pilot indicating that a weapons system of the real vehicle has a weapons target lock on the virtual aircraft, wherein the weapons target lock indication is generated by a simulation computer system executing software simulating a battle scene, in which the pilot is represented, when the simulation computer system indicates that there is an indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft;
receiving an indication that the pilot has initiated launch of a weapon from the vehicle's weapons system, wherein the indication of launch initiation is communicated to the simulation computer system and the simulation computer system generates a launched weapon;
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image to the pilot representing the launched weapon; and
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image graphically illustrated as an explosion based at least in part on an estimated intersection of the virtual weapon and virtual aircraft by the simulation computing system;
wherein the indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft is based at least in part on a real weapons system of the real aircraft following a presenting of data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the target lock indication is presented as an augmented reality image in the see-through optical system and maintains alignment with the virtual aircraft while the target lock indication persists.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the simulation computer system is a ground-based computer system configured to bi-directionally communicate with a computer system onboard the real aircraft.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the simulation computer system is configured to communicate the data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the data representing the virtual aircraft comprises position, pose, and velocity.
6 . A method, comprising:
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle, wherein the virtual aircraft is presented through a head mounted see-through optical system;
transmitting an instruction to present a target lock indication to the pilot indicating that a weapons system of the real vehicle has a weapons target lock on the virtual aircraft, wherein the weapons target lock indication is generated by a simulation computer system executing software simulating a battle scene, in which the pilot is represented, when the simulation computer system indicates that there is an indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft;
receiving an indication that the pilot has initiated launch of a weapon from the vehicle's weapons system, wherein the indication of launch initiation is communicated to the simulation computer system and the simulation computer system generates a launched weapon;
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image to the pilot representing the launched weapon; and
transmitting data for presenting an augmented reality image graphically illustrated as an explosion based at least in part on an estimated intersection of the virtual weapon and virtual aircraft by the simulation computing system,
wherein the indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft is based at least in part on a computer model representing a real weapons system of the real aircraft following a presenting of data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the computer model representing a real weapons system uses contextual data based at least in part on the real aircraft's current state.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the real aircraft's current state comprises at least one of speed, pose, velocity, kinetic energy state, and potential energy state.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle comprises communication of image geometries from the simulation computer to a rendering computer, wherein the rendering computer renders the virtual aircraft for presentation based at least in part on the image geometries.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the simulation computer is ground based and the rendering computer is onboard the real aircraft.
11 . A training system, comprising:
a gaming engine;
a processor in communication with the gaming engine; and
a memory in communication with the processor, the memory storing instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to:
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle, wherein the virtual aircraft is presented through a head mounted see-through optical system;
transmit an instruction to present a target lock indication to the pilot indicating that a weapons system of the real vehicle has a weapons target lock on the virtual aircraft, wherein the weapons target lock indication is generated by the gaming engine simulating a battle scene, in which the pilot is represented, when the gaming engine indicates that there is an indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft;
receive an indication that the pilot has initiated launch of a weapon from the vehicle's weapons system, wherein the indication of launch initiation is communicated to the gaming engine and the gaming engine generates a launched weapon;
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image to the pilot representing the launched weapon; and
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image graphically illustrated as an explosion based at least in part on an estimated intersection of the virtual weapon and virtual aircraft by the gaming engine;
wherein the indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft is based at least in part on a real weapons system of the real aircraft following a presenting of data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the target lock indication is presented as an augmented reality image in the see-through optical system and maintains alignment with the virtual aircraft while the target lock indication persists.
13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the gaming engine is a ground-based computer system configured to bi-directionally communicate with a computer system onboard the real aircraft.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the gaming engine is configured to communicate the data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the data representing the virtual aircraft comprises position, pose, and velocity.
16 . A training system, comprising:
a gaming engine;
a processor in communication with the gaming engine; and
a memory in communication with the processor, the memory storing instructions that when executed by the processor cause the processor to:
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle, wherein the virtual aircraft is presented through a head mounted see-through optical system;
transmit an instruction to present a target lock indication to the pilot indicating that a weapons system of the real vehicle has a weapons target lock on the virtual aircraft, wherein the weapons target lock indication is generated by the gaming engine simulating a battle scene, in which the pilot is represented, when the gaming engine indicates that there is an indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft;
receive an indication that the pilot has initiated launch of a weapon from the vehicle's weapons system, wherein the indication of launch initiation is communicated to the gaming engine and the gaming engine generates a launched weapon;
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image to the pilot representing the launched weapon; and
transmit data for presenting an augmented reality image graphically illustrated as an explosion based at least in part on an estimated intersection of the virtual weapon and virtual aircraft by the gaming engine
wherein the indication of alignment between an ability of a weapon of the weapons system to hit the virtual aircraft is based at least in part on a computer model representing a real weapons system of the real aircraft following a presenting of data representing the virtual aircraft to the real weapons system.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the computer model representing a real weapons system uses contextual data based at least in part on the real aircraft's current state.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the real aircraft's current state comprises at least one of speed, pose, velocity, kinetic energy state, and potential energy state.
19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the step of presenting an augmented reality image of a virtual aircraft positioned at a geospatial location to a pilot operating a real vehicle comprises communication of image geometries from the simulation computer to a rendering computer, wherein the rendering computer renders the virtual aircraft for presentation based at least in part on the image geometries.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the simulation computer is ground based and the rendering computer is onboard the real aircraft.
