Method and system for determining analyte levels
Methods and systems including receiving exogenous measurement data, receiving current analyte sensor measurement data from an analyte sensor configured to detect signal levels representative of analyte levels, and iteratively determining a plurality of present predicted state estimates using the exogenous measurement data and a past state estimate, wherein each subsequent present predicted state estimate is provided as input as the past state estimate. Thereafter, determining a present corrected state estimate using the iteratively determined plurality of present predicted state estimates and the current analyte sensor measurement data, the present corrected state estimate including an estimated analyte level and generating and outputting a medication delivery profile based on the estimated analyte level, the medication delivery profile comprising at least one of medication delivery rate or a medication delivery amount.
1 . A method comprising:
receiving exogenous measurement data, by a processor of a user interface device;
receiving glucose data, by the processor of the user interface device, from a glucose sensor comprising a portion positioned under a user's skin in contact with a bodily fluid and configured to detect signal levels representative of glucose levels, the glucose sensor comprising sensor electronics operatively coupled thereto and configured to communicate with the user interface device;
determining current glucose sensor measurement data based on one or more of the glucose data collected over a first time period or glucose data collected over a second time period that is longer than the first time period, wherein the current glucose sensor measurement data is based on the glucose data collected over the first time period when a medication delivery rate or amount exceeds a predetermined threshold level, and wherein the current glucose sensor measurement data is based on the glucose data collected over the second time period when the medication delivery rate or amount is below the predetermined threshold level;
iteratively determining, by the processor of the user interface, a plurality of present predicted state estimates using the exogenous measurement data and a past state estimate, wherein each subsequent present predicted state estimate is provided as input as the past state estimate;
determining, by the processor of the user interface, a present corrected state estimate using the iteratively determined plurality of present predicted state estimates and the current glucose sensor measurement data, the present corrected state estimate includes an estimated glucose level; and
generating and outputting, by the processor of the user interface, a medication delivery profile based on the estimated glucose level, the medication delivery profile comprising at least one of a medication delivery rate or a medication delivery amount.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the exogenous measurement data includes at least one of medication delivery information, meal intake information, or exercise information.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the glucose sensor is a continuous glucose sensor.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
outputting, by the processor of the user interface, the estimated glucose level.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
filtering, using a rate variance filter, the current glucose sensor measurement data.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining, by the processor of the user interface, at least one of a rate of change or a standard deviation of the current glucose sensor measurement data; and
filtering, using a rate variance filter, the current glucose sensor measurement data, wherein when the rate of change or the standard deviation exceeds a predetermined threshold, the rate variance filter is adjusted to reduce variation in the current glucose sensor measurement data.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
filtering, using a rate variance filter, the exogenous measurement data.
8 . A system comprising:
a glucose sensor comprising sensor electronics operatively coupled thereto and configured to detect signal levels representative of glucose levels and comprising a portion configured to be positioned under a user's skin in contact with a bodily fluid; and
a user interface device configured to communicate with the sensor electronics, the user interface device including a processor, wherein the processor is configured to:
receive exogenous measurement data, by the processor of a user interface device;
receive glucose data, by the processor of the user interface device, from the glucose sensor;
determine current glucose sensor measurement data based on one or more of the glucose data collected over a first time period or glucose data collected over a second time period that is longer than the first time period, wherein the current glucose sensor measurement data is based on the glucose data collected over the first time period when a medication delivery rate or amount exceeds a predetermined threshold level, and wherein the current glucose sensor measurement data is based on the glucose data collected over the second time period when the medication delivery rate or amount is below the predetermined threshold level;
iteratively determine, by the processor of the user interface, a plurality of present predicted state estimates using the exogenous measurement data and a past state estimate, wherein each subsequent present predicted state estimate is provided as input as the past state estimate;
determine, by the processor of the user interface, a present corrected state estimate using the iteratively determined plurality of present predicted state estimates and the current glucose sensor measurement data, the present corrected state estimate including an estimated glucose level; and
generate and output, by the processor of the user interface, a medication delivery profile based on the estimated glucose level, the medication delivery profile comprising at least one of medication delivery rate or a medication delivery amount.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the exogenous measurement data includes at least one of medication delivery information, meal intake information, or exercise information.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor of the user interface is further configured to:
output the estimated glucose level.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor of the user interface is further configured to:
filter, using a rate variance filter, the current glucose sensor measurement data.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor of the user interface is further configured to:
determine at least one of a rate of change or a standard deviation of the current glucose sensor measurement data; and
filter, using a rate variance filter, the current glucose sensor measurement data,
wherein when the rate of change or the standard deviation exceeds a predetermined threshold, the rate variance filter is adjusted to reduce variation in the current glucose sensor measurement data.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor of the user interface is further configured to:
filter, using a rate variance filter, the exogenous measurement data.
14 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising a medication delivery device configured for delivery of medication to a user based on the estimated glucose level.
15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising outputting the medication delivery profile to a medication delivery device.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the medication delivery device comprises a pen-type injector.
17 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the current glucose sensor measurement data based on the glucose data collected over the second time period when a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the medication delivery rate or the medication delivery amount exceeded the predetermined threshold level.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine the current glucose sensor measurement data based on the glucose data collected over the second time period when a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the medication delivery rate or the medication delivery amount exceeded the predetermined threshold level.
