Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are provided for resilience in network communications. An example system includes at least one first network port including a first plurality of subports and at least one second network port including a second plurality of subports. The system also includes an intermediate switch communicably connected to the at least one first network port and the at least one second network port. At least one of the first plurality of subports includes at least one first offline subport that is inoperable in an instance in which each of the remaining first plurality of subports are operable. The intermediate switch is configured to route communication from one of the second plurality of subports to the at least one first offline subport in an instance in which the intermediate switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports.

at least one second network port comprising a second plurality of subport located at the second network layer;

a first layer network port located at a first network layer different from the second network layer; and

an intermediate switch disposed between the first network layer and the second network layer and communicably connected to the at least one first network port, the at least one second network port, and the first layer network port,

wherein the intermediate switch comprises an optical switch configured to:

selectively route communication between the first layer network port and the first plurality of subports of the at least one first network port and the second plurality of subports of the at least one second network port; and

selectively route communication from one of the second plurality of subports to the at least one first offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein, in response to the indication of the malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports, the optical switch of the intermediate switch is configured to terminate communication to at least one of the first plurality of subports associated with the indication of the malfunction.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein, in response to an indication that the malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports has been resolved, the optical switch of the intermediate switch is further configured to reestablish communication between the second plurality of subports and the first plurality of subports other than the first offline subport.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the second plurality of subports comprises at least one second offline subport that is inoperable in an instance in which each of the second plurality of subports are operable.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the optical switch of the intermediate switch is configured to route communication from one of the first plurality of subports to the at least one second offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch intermediate switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the second plurality of subports.

6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the optical switch of the intermediate switch is configured to route communication from the first layer network port to the at least one second offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch intermediate switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the second plurality of subports.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one first network port and the at least one second network port are electrical network ports.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the optical switch of the intermediate switch is further configured to selectively route communication from the first layer network port to the at least one first offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports.

9 . An optical switch for providing resilience in network communications, the optical switch communicably connected to at least:

one first network port comprising a first plurality of subports located at a second network layer;

at least one second network port comprising a second plurality of subports located at the second network layer; and

a first layer network port located at a first network layer different from the second network layer,

wherein at least one of the first plurality of subports comprises at least one first offline subport, wherein the at least one first offline subport is inoperable in an instance in which each of the remaining first plurality of subports are operable, and

wherein the optical switch is configured to:

selectively route communication between the first layer network port and the first plurality of subports of the at least one first network port and the second plurality of subports of the at least one second network port; and

selectively route communication from one of the second plurality of subports to the at least one first offline subport in an instance in which the intermediate switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports.

10 . The optical switch of claim 9 , further configured to, in response to the indication of the malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports, terminate communication to at least one of the first plurality of subports associated with the indication of the malfunction.

11 . The optical switch of claim 9 , further configured to, in response to an indication that the malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports has been resolved, reestablish communication between the second plurality of subports and the first plurality of subports other than the first offline subport.

12 . The optical switch of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the second plurality of subports comprises at least one second offline subport that is inoperable in an instance in which each of the second plurality of subports are operable.

13 . The optical switch of claim 12 , further configured to route communication from one of the first plurality of subports to the at least one second offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the second plurality of subports.

14 . The optical switch of claim 9 , wherein the at least one first network port and the at least one second network port are electrical network ports.

15 . The optical switch of claim 9 , further configured to selectively route communication from the first layer network port to the at least one first offline subport in an instance in which the optical switch receives an indication of a malfunction associated with the first plurality of subports.

16 . A method for providing resilience in network communications, the method comprising:

communicably connecting, by an optical switch, at least:
