Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to systems for enhancing a first media item through the addition of a supplemental second media item. A user may provide a request to enhance a selected media item, and in response, an enhancement system retrieves and presents a curated collection of supplemental content to be added to the media, to the user. The user may review the curated collection of supplemental content, for example by providing a tactile input to scroll through the curated collection of content.

Claims (48)

1 . A system comprising:

a memory; and

at least one hardware processor coupled to the memory and comprising instructions that causes the system to perform operations comprising:

causing display of media content at a client device;

receiving a request to generate a composite media item based on the media content;

accessing a contextual factor in response to the request to generate the composite media item, the contextual factor including temporal data;

curating a collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor that includes the temporal data, and an attribute of the media content;

receiving an input that selects a supplemental content from among the collection of supplemental content, the supplemental content comprising audio data;

causing display of a waveform visualization of the audio data along a time axis;

receiving a selection of a segment along the time axis of the waveform visualization of the audio data, the selection of the segment along the time axis being altered based on a position of a graphical element along the waveform visualization, the selection identifying boundaries of the segment along the time axis that corresponds with a portion of the audio data;

generating the composite media item based on the portion of the audio data and the media content, the composite media item comprising a display of a graphical icon overlaid upon the media content, the graphical icon comprising an identifier associated with the supplemental content; and

generating a message that includes a presentation of the composite media item, the message including an ephemeral message that comprises a display duration.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the media content comprises image data.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the curating the collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor includes:

determining a media category based on the contextual factor; and

curating the collection of supplemental content based on the media category.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the contextual factor includes location data.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the selection of the segment along the time axis being altered based on a position of a graphical element along the waveform visualization further comprises shortening the segment.

6 . A method comprising:

causing display of media content at a client device;

receiving a request to generate a composite media item based on the media content;

accessing a contextual factor in response to the request to generate the composite media item, the contextual factor including temporal data;

curating a collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor that includes the temporal data, and an attribute of the media content;

receiving an input that selects a supplemental content from among the collection of supplemental content, the supplemental content comprising audio data;

causing display of a waveform visualization of the audio data along a time axis;

receiving a selection of a segment along the time axis of the waveform visualization of the audio data, the selection of the segment along the time axis being altered based on a position of a graphical element along the waveform visualization, the selection identifying boundaries of the segment along the time axis that corresponds with a portion of the audio data;

generating the composite media item based on the portion of the audio data and the media content, the composite media item comprising a display of a graphical icon overlaid upon the media content, the graphical icon comprising an identifier associated with the supplemental content; and

generating a message that includes a presentation of the composite media item, the message including an ephemeral message that comprises a display duration.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the media content comprises image data.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the curating the collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor includes:

determining a media category based on the contextual factor; and

curating the collection of supplemental content based on the media category.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the contextual factor includes location data.

10 . A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

causing display of media content at a client device;

receiving a request to generate a composite media item based on the media content;

accessing a contextual factor in response to the request to generate the composite media item, the contextual factor including temporal data;

curating a collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor that includes the temporal data, and an attribute of the media content;

receiving an input that selects a supplemental content from among the collection of supplemental content, the supplemental content comprising audio data;

causing display of a waveform visualization of the audio data along a time axis;

receiving a selection of a segment along the time axis of the waveform visualization of the audio data, the selection of the segment along the time axis being altered based on a position of a graphical element along the waveform visualization, the selection identifying boundaries of the segment along the time axis that corresponds with a portion of the audio data;

generating the composite media item based on the portion of the audio data and the media content, the composite media item comprising a display of a graphical icon overlaid upon the media content, the graphical icon comprising an identifier associated with the supplemental content; and

generating a message that includes a presentation of the composite media item, the message including an ephemeral message that comprises a display duration.

11 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the media content comprises image data.

12 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the curating the collection of supplemental content based on the contextual factor includes:

determining a media category based on the contextual factor; and

curating the collection of supplemental content based on the media category.

13 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the contextual factor includes location data.
