Abstract

A video encoder for encoding a video into a data stream using motion compensated prediction for inter predicted blocks, comprising a hypothesis number control, configured to control a number of prediction hypotheses of the inter predicted blocks within a predetermined portion of the video to meet a predetermined criterion.

Claims (16)

1 . Video encoder ( 10 ) for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, configured to

use, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.

2 . Video encoder ( 10 ) according to claim 1 , configured so that the dependency is monotonic.

3 . Video encoder ( 10 ) according to claim 1 or 2 , configured so that the larger n is, the smaller the interpolation filter size is.

4 . Video decoder ( 20 ) for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, configured to

use, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.

5 . Video decoder ( 20 ) according to claim 4 , configured so that the dependency is monotonic.

6 . Video decoder ( 20 ) according to claim 4 or 5 , configured so that the larger n is, the smaller the interpolation filter size is.

7 . Method for encoding for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, comprising

using, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.

8 . Method for decoding for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, comprising

using, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.

9 . A non-transitory digital medium having computer program stored thereon to perform the method for encoding for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, comprising

using, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.

10 . A non-transitory digital medium having computer program stored thereon to perform the method for decoding for supporting multi-hypothesis motion compensated prediction, comprising

using, for n-th hypotheses of inter predicted blocks ( 80 ), an interpolation filter size which depends on n.
