Abstract

Disparate live output stream manifests are generated based on user selection. When current media programming content in an existing first disparate live media output stream is streamed on a media player, a processor determine a set of alternate live input streams and/or a pre-encoded media assets, and associated alternate live media output manifests and/or pre-encoded media asset manifests, respectively, based on parameters and metadata associated with the existing first disparate live media output stream. Based on an indicator in an existing first disparate live media output stream manifest, alternate content options are transmitted to the media player. A response is received corresponding to a selected alternate live input stream and/or a pre-encoded media asset. An updated first disparate live media output stream manifest is published to a content delivery system, which includes one of the alternate live input stream manifest associated with the selected alternate live input stream.

Claims (41)

1 . A system comprising memory and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to:

determine an alternative content option from one or more alternative content options for an existing disparate live media output stream that is streamed on a media player;

insert an alternative content manifest corresponding to the alternative content option to a branched version of a disparate live media output stream manifest corresponding to the existing disparate live media output stream to generate an updated disparate live media output stream manifest for a branched disparate live media output stream, wherein:

(a) the disparate live media output stream manifest comprises a current media programming content manifest that corresponds to a current media programming content of the existing disparate live media output stream, and

(b) the alternative content manifest is separated from the current media programming content manifest within the updated disparate live media output stream manifest by a discontinuity tag to transition the media player from a first source corresponding to the current media programming content to a second source corresponding to the alternative content option; and

publish the disparate live media output stream manifest and the updated disparate live media output stream manifest to a content delivery system, wherein the content delivery system streams the alternative content option to the media player based on the updated disparate live media output stream manifest.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the alternative content option is identified from the one or more alternative content options based on user input.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user input comprises a plurality of voting responses from a plurality of users.

4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the user input corresponds to a selection of the alternative content option from the one or more alternative content options.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more alternative content options are provided for display as an overlay to the existing disparate live media output stream.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more alternative content options are based on one or more parameters and metadata associated with the existing disparate live media output stream.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the metadata comprises one or more of consumer data, one or more geographical restrictions, one or more content rights information, one or more individual consumer preferences, or one or more generalized consumer preferences for the existing disparate live media output stream.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the alternative content option is automatically selected from the one or more alternative content options based on the one or more individual consumer preferences.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

(i) the existing disparate live media output stream is scheduled based on a programming schedule,

(ii) the updated disparate live media output stream manifest is scheduled based on an updated programming schedule, and

(iii) the updated programming schedule schedules the alternative content option after the current media programming content in the existing disparate live media output stream.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the alternative content option comprises a live input stream or a pre-encoded media asset.

11 . A method comprising:

determining, by one or more processors, an alternative content option from one or more alternative content options for an existing disparate live media output stream that is streamed on a media player;

inserting, by the one or more processors, alternative content manifest corresponding to the alternative content option to a branched version of a disparate live media output stream manifest corresponding to the existing disparate live media output stream to generate an updated disparate live media output stream manifest for a branched disparate live media output stream, wherein:

(a) the disparate live media output stream manifest comprises a current media programming content manifest that corresponds to a current media programming content of the existing disparate live media output stream, and

(b) the alternative content manifest is separated from the current media programming content manifest within the updated disparate live media output stream manifest by a discontinuity tag to transition the media player from a first source corresponding to the current media programming content to a second source corresponding to the alternative content option; and

publishing, by the one or more processors, the disparate live media output stream manifest and the updated disparate live media output stream manifest to a content delivery system, wherein the content delivery system streams the alternative content option to the media player based on the updated disparate live media output stream manifest.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the alternative content option is identified from the one or more alternative content options based on user input.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the user input comprises a plurality of voting responses from a plurality of users.

14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the user input corresponds to a selection of the alternative content option from the one or more alternative content options.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the one or more alternative content options are provided for display as an overlay to the existing disparate live media output stream.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more alternative content options are based on one or more parameters and metadata associated with the existing disparate live media output stream.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the metadata comprises one or more of consumer data, one or more geographical restrictions, one or more content rights information, one or more individual consumer preferences, or one or more generalized consumer preferences for the existing disparate live media output stream.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the alternative content option is automatically selected from the one or more alternative content options based on the one or more individual consumer preferences.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein:

(i) the existing disparate live media output stream is scheduled based on a programming schedule,

(ii) the updated disparate live media output stream manifest is scheduled based on an updated programming schedule, and

(iii) the updated programming schedule schedules the alternative content option after the current media programming content in the existing disparate live media output stream.

20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon, computer implemented instructions, that when executed by one or more processors in a computing system, cause the computing system to execute operations, the operations comprising:

determining an alternative content option from one or more alternative content options for an existing disparate live media output stream that is streamed on a media player;

inserting an alternative content manifest corresponding to the alternative content option to a branched version of a disparate live media output stream manifest corresponding to the existing disparate live media output stream to generate an updated disparate live media output stream manifest for a branched disparate live media output stream, wherein:

(a) the disparate live media output stream manifest comprises a current media programming content manifest that corresponds to a current media programming content of the existing disparate live media output stream, and
