Abstract

Disclosed are techniques for communication. In an aspect, a network entity receives one or more capabilities of a user equipment (UE) to receive tracking area indicator (TAI) lists in advance of a positioning session, and transmits, based on the one or more UE capabilities and network load, a configuration of one or more ciphering keys and a TAI list indicating one or more tracking areas in which the one or more ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more tracking areas are associated with a first network access subscription of the UE, and wherein the UE is located in one of the one or more first tracking areas.

Claims (39)

1 . A user equipment (UE), comprising:

one or more memories;

one or more transceivers; and

one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memories and the one or more transceivers, the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, configured to:

receive, via the one or more transceivers, from a first third-party server, a first configuration of one or more first ciphering keys and a first tracking area indicator (TAI) list indicating one or more first tracking areas in which the one or more first ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more first tracking areas are associated with a first network access subscription of the UE;

receive, via the one or more transceivers, from a second third-party server, a second configuration of one or more second ciphering keys and a second TAI list indicating one or more second tracking areas in which the one or more second ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more second tracking areas are associated with a second network access subscription of the UE, and wherein the UE is simultaneously located in one of the one or more first tracking areas and one of the one or more second tracking areas;

select the first network access subscription for a positioning session based on a number of the one or more first tracking areas being greater than a number of the one or more second tracking areas; and

decipher one or more positioning system information blocks (posSIBs) broadcast in the one or more first tracking areas using the one or more first ciphering keys to obtain assistance data for the positioning session.

2 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the number of the one or more first tracking areas being greater than the number of the one or more second tracking areas comprises the first TAI list being empty and the second TAI list including identifiers of the one or more second tracking areas.

3 . The UE of claim 2 , wherein the first TAI list being empty indicates that the one or more first ciphering keys are valid for all tracking areas in a public land mobile network (PLMN) associated with the first network access subscription.

4 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, are further configured to:

transmit, via the one or more transceivers, a request for the first configuration based on the UE being located in the one of the one or more first tracking areas; and

transmit, via the one or more transceivers, a request for the second configuration based on the UE being located in the one of the one or more second tracking areas.

5 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, are further configured to:

receive, via the one or more transceivers, a third configuration of one or more third ciphering keys and a third TAI list indicating one or more third tracking areas in which the one or more third ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more third tracking areas are associated with the first network access subscription, and wherein the one or more third tracking areas are neighboring tracking areas of the one or more first tracking areas.

6 . The UE of claim 5 , wherein the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, are further configured to:

transmit, via the one or more transceivers, a request for the third configuration.

7 . The UE of claim 5 , wherein the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, are further configured to:

transmit, via the one or more transceivers, a tracking area update (TAU) based on the UE moving from the one or more first tracking areas to the one or more third tracking areas, wherein the third configuration is received before the TAU is transmitted.

8 . The UE of claim 5 , wherein the third configuration is received without transmission of a request for the third configuration based on network load.

9 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the one or more first tracking areas are all tracking areas associated with the first network access subscription from an origin to a destination of a route of the UE, and

the one or more second tracking areas are all tracking areas associated with the second network access subscription from the origin to the destination of the route of the UE.

10 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the first TAI list is based on first crowdsourced information, and

the second TAI list is based on second crowdsourced information.

11 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein:

the first configuration is received without transmission of a request for the first configuration based on network load, and

the second configuration is received without transmission of a request for the second configuration based on the network load.

12 . The UE of claim 11 , wherein the one or more processors, either alone or in combination, are further configured to:

transmit, via the one or more transceivers, one or more capabilities of the UE to receive a TAI list in advance of the positioning session.

13 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the UE is:

a dual subscriber identity module (SIM) dual active (DSDA) UE, or

a dual SIM dual stand-by (DSDS) UE.

14 . A method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE), comprising:

receiving, from a first third-party server, a first configuration of one or more first ciphering keys and a first tracking area indicator (TAI) list indicating one or more first tracking areas in which the one or more first ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more first tracking areas are associated with a first network access subscription of the UE;

receiving, from a second third-party server, a second configuration of one or more second ciphering keys and a second TAI list indicating one or more second tracking areas in which the one or more second ciphering keys are valid, wherein the one or more second tracking areas are associated with a second network access subscription of the UE, and wherein the UE is simultaneously located in one of the one or more first tracking areas and one of the one or more second tracking areas;

selecting the first network access subscription for a positioning session based on a number of the one or more first tracking areas being greater than a number of the one or more second tracking areas; and

deciphering one or more positioning system information blocks (posSIBs) broadcast in the one or more first tracking areas using the one or more first ciphering keys to obtain assistance data for the positioning session.
