Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems and methods for predicting high latency conditions for a data connection between an extended reality device and a wireless telecommunication system. A schedule associated with downlink and/or uplink grants at a base station is queried to determine if it comprises a sufficient number of grants in an upcoming time period to adequately serve the extended reality device. If it does not, the extended reality device can implement mitigating actions to reduce data consumption in the downlink or data transmission in the uplink to minimize undesirable effects to user experience and device performance.

Claims (36)

1 . A method for managing latency in an extended reality (XR) device comprising:

communicating an indication to a base station that the extended reality device is performing XR activity;

receiving, from the base station, a first high latency indication; and

implementing a first set of one or more latency mitigation actions;

receiving a second high latency indication, wherein the first high latency indication is associated with a future latency exceeding a first predetermined threshold and the second high latency indication is associated with the future latency exceeding a second predetermined threshold, the second predetermined threshold being greater than the first predetermined threshold; and

implementing a second set of one or more latency mitigation actions, wherein the second set of one or more latency mitigation actions have a greater impact on the XR activity than the first set of one or more latency mitigation actions.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication represents a device type of the XR device, the device type being an XR-specific device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication represents a device identity, the device identity being previously registered with a network entity as having a device type, and wherein the device type is an XR-specific device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication represents that the UE is requesting data for use with an XR application running on the XR device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises reducing a number of degrees of freedom associated with the XR activity.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises modifying a compression rate or a rendering rate.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises utilizing buffered data for display on a graphic user interface of the XR device.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises reducing a display frame rate on a graphic user interface of the XR device.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the high latency indication comprises an allocation of radio resources in an upcoming time period, and wherein implementing the first set of one or more latency mitigation actions is based on a determination, by the XR device, that the allocation of radio resources in the upcoming time period is less than a threshold associated with executing the XR activity.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the XR device communicates one or more scheduling parameters to the base station comprising a signal to noise interference ratio (SINR) and a power headroom.

11 . A system for managing latency in an extended reality (XR) device comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform operations comprising:

communicating an indication to a base station that the extended reality device is performing XR activity;

receiving, from the base station, a first high latency indication;

implementing a first set of one or more latency mitigation actions;

receiving a second high latency indication, wherein the first high latency indication is associated with a future latency exceeding a first predetermined threshold and the second high latency indication is associated with the future latency exceeding a second predetermined threshold, the second predetermined threshold being greater than the first predetermined threshold; and

implementing a second set of one or more latency mitigation actions, wherein the second set of one or more latency mitigation actions have a greater impact on the XR activity than the first set of one or more latency mitigation actions.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises reducing a number of degrees of freedom associated with the XR activity.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises modifying a compression rate or a rendering rate.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises utilizing buffered data for display on a graphic user interface of the XR device.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises reducing a display frame rate on a graphic user interface of the XR device.

16 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of an extended reality (XR) device, cause the XR device to perform operations comprising:

communicating an indication to a base station that the extended reality device is performing XR activity;

receiving, from the base station, a first high latency indication;

implementing a first set of one or more latency mitigation actions;

receiving a second high latency indication, wherein the first high latency indication is associated with a future latency exceeding a first predetermined threshold and the second high latency indication is associated with the future latency exceeding a second predetermined threshold, the second predetermined threshold being greater than the first predetermined threshold; and

implementing a second set of one or more latency mitigation actions, wherein the second set of one or more latency mitigation actions have a greater impact on the XR activity than the first set of one or more latency mitigation actions.

17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises reducing a number of degrees of freedom associated with the XR activity.

18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises modifying a compression rate or a rendering rate.

19 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 16 , wherein the one or more latency mitigation actions comprises utilizing buffered data for display on a graphic user interface of the XR device.
