The method includes transmitting a UECapabilityInformation to the GNB, receiving a RRCReconfiguration form the GNB, performing DRX operation based on the RRCReconfiguration and current-drx2-ConfigId, receiving a first MAC CE from the GNB and performing DRX operation based on the first MAC CE. The performing DRX operation comprises receiving or not receiving configured assignment based downlink transport block.
1 . A user equipment (UE) configured for a wireless communication system, the UE comprising:
a transceiver; and
a controller coupled to the transceiver and configured to:
activate a cell-level discontinuous reception operation for a serving cell based on an activation state indicator;
when the cell-level discontinuous reception operation is activated:
identify a starting point of an active duration by determining that [(SFN×10)+subframe number]modulo (cycle length) equals a start offset value, wherein SFN is a system frame number;
initiate an on-duration timer for the serving cell at a slot offset from a beginning of a subframe corresponding to the starting point;
during an overlap between an active period of the cell-level discontinuous reception operation and a non-active time of a UE-level discontinuous reception operation, receive a semi-persistent scheduling (SPS) configured downlink transport block; and
during an overlap between a non-active period of the cell-level discontinuous reception operation and an active time of the UE-level discontinuous reception operation, refrain from receiving the SPS configured downlink transport block,
wherein the controller is further configured to receive, from a base station, a radio resource control (RRC) configuration message for the serving cell, the RRC configuration message comprising:
a first configuration parameter identifying the start offset value for a cell-level discontinuous reception cycle;
a second configuration parameter comprising the cycle length and an active duration length for the cell-level discontinuous reception cycle; and
the activation state indicator for activating the cell-level discontinuous reception operation.
2 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein:
the RRC configuration message comprises a plurality of cell-level discontinuous reception configurations, each configuration comprising:
a respective configuration identifier;
a respective cycle length; and
a respective active duration length;
the activation state indicator comprises one of the respective configuration identifiers; and
the controller is configured to:
activate the cell-level discontinuous reception operation using parameters of a configuration identified by the respective configuration identifier indicated in the activation state indicator; and
apply the respective cycle length and the respective active duration length of the identified configuration.
3 . The UE of claim 2 , wherein:
the UE is configured with a plurality of serving cells including the serving cell; and
the controller is configured to:
receive respective RRC configuration messages for respective serving cells of the plurality of serving cells;
extract, from each respective RRC configuration message, a respective activation state indicator for a corresponding serving cell; and
independently activate or deactivate the cell-level discontinuous reception operation for each of the respective serving cells based on the respective activation state indicator.
4 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:
during the active period of the cell-level discontinuous reception operation:
receive periodic channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) on the serving cell via the transceiver; and
receive semi-persistent CSI-RS on the serving cell via the transceiver;
during the non-active period of the cell-level discontinuous reception operation:
refrain from receiving the periodic CSI-RS on the serving cell; and
refrain from receiving the semi-persistent CSI-RS on the serving cell; and
derive channel measurements for computing channel state information (CSI) based on a most recent CSI-RS reception occasion that occurred during the active period of the cell-level discontinuous reception operation.
5 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein the controller is further configured to:
activate a cell-level discontinuous transmission operation for an uplink of the serving cell based on a second activation state indicator;
when the cell-level discontinuous transmission operation is activated:
determine active and non-active periods for uplink transmission based on the cell-level discontinuous reception cycle;
during an active period of the cell-level discontinuous transmission operation:
transmit periodic sounding reference signal (SRS) via the transceiver;
transmit semi-persistent SRS via the transceiver; and
transmit a scheduling request via the transceiver;
during a non-active period of the cell-level discontinuous transmission operation:
refrain from transmitting the periodic SRS;
refrain from transmitting the semi-persistent SRS; and
refrain from transmitting the scheduling request.
6 . The UE of claim 5 , wherein:
the serving cell is configured with a normal uplink (NUL) carrier and a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier;
the RRC configuration message further comprises an uplink indicator specifying whether the cell-level discontinuous transmission operation applies to:
the NUL carrier only,
the SUL carrier only, or
both the NUL carrier and the SUL carrier; and
the controller is configured to activate the cell-level discontinuous transmission operation for the uplink carrier or carriers specified by the uplink indicator.
7 . The UE of claim 1 , wherein:
the UE is configured with a plurality of serving cells including the serving cell;
the plurality of serving cells are divided into a primary discontinuous reception group and a secondary discontinuous reception group;
the RRC configuration message comprises:
a first set of UE-level discontinuous reception parameters for the primary discontinuous reception group, comprising a first on-duration timer and a first inactivity timer;
a second set of UE-level discontinuous reception parameters for the secondary discontinuous reception group, comprising a second on-duration timer and a second inactivity timer; and
common UE-level discontinuous reception parameters shared by both groups, comprising a slot offset and a cycle start offset; and
the controller is configured to:
apply the first set of UE-level discontinuous reception parameters to serving cells in the primary discontinuous reception group; and
apply the second set of UE-level discontinuous reception parameters to serving cells in the secondary discontinuous reception group.
