Abstract

To provide a light-emitting device having high efficiency and high reliability. The light-emitting device includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an organic compound layer; the organic compound layer is between the first electrode and the second electrode; the organic compound layer includes a first light-emitting unit, a second light-emitting unit, and an intermediate layer; the intermediate layer is between the first light-emitting unit and the second light-emitting unit; the intermediate layer includes a mixed layer containing a first organic compound and a second organic compound; the first organic compound is strongly basic; the second organic compound has an electron-transport property; and the first organic compound has a higher LUMO level than the second organic compound.

Claims (69)

1 . A light-emitting device comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode; and

an organic compound layer between the first electrode and the second electrode,

wherein the organic compound layer comprises a first light-emitting unit, a second light-emitting unit, and an intermediate layer,

wherein the intermediate layer is between the first light-emitting unit and the second light-emitting unit,

wherein the intermediate layer comprises a mixed layer comprising a first organic compound and a second organic compound,

wherein the first organic compound is a strongly basic compound having an acid dissociation constant pK a higher than or equal to 8,

wherein the second organic compound has an electron-transport property, and

wherein a LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than a LUMO level of the second organic compound.

2 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than the LUMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV.

3 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than the LUMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV, and

wherein a HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than a HOMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV.

4 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV.

5 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV, and

wherein a HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −5.7 eV and lower than or equal to −4.8 eV.

6 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV, and

wherein the LUMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −3.25 eV and lower than or equal to −2.50 eV.

7 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV,

wherein the LUMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −3.25 eV and lower than or equal to −2.50 eV,

wherein a HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −5.7 eV and lower than or equal to −4.8 eV, and

wherein a HOMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −6.5 eV and lower than or equal to −5.7 eV.

8 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the second organic compound is a basic compound having an acid dissociation constant pK a higher than or equal to 4 and lower than or equal to 8.

9 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the first organic compound has no electron-donating property with respect to the second organic compound.

10 . The light-emitting device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the mixed layer comprising the first organic compound and the second organic compound has spin density lower than or equal to 1×10 17 spins/cm 3 measured by an electron spin resonance method.

11 . A light-emitting device comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode; and

an organic compound layer between the first electrode and the second electrode,

wherein the organic compound layer comprises a first light-emitting unit, a second light-emitting unit, and an intermediate layer,

wherein the intermediate layer is between the first light-emitting unit and the second light-emitting unit,

wherein the intermediate layer comprises a mixed layer comprising a first organic compound and a second organic compound,

wherein the first organic compound is a strongly basic compound having an acid dissociation constant pK a higher than or equal to 8,

wherein the second organic compound has an electron-transport property,

wherein a LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than a LUMO level of the second organic compound, and

wherein a HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than a HOMO level of the second organic compound.

12 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than the LUMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV.

13 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than the LUMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV, and

wherein the HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than the HOMO level of the second organic compound by greater than or equal to 0.05 eV.

14 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV.

15 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV, and

wherein the HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −5.7 eV and lower than or equal to −4.8 eV.

16 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV, and

wherein the LUMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −3.25 eV and lower than or equal to −2.50 eV.

17 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the LUMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −2.50 eV and lower than or equal to −1.00 eV,

wherein the LUMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −3.25 eV and lower than or equal to −2.50 eV,

wherein the HOMO level of the first organic compound is higher than or equal to −5.7 eV and lower than or equal to −4.8 eV, and

wherein the HOMO level of the second organic compound is higher than or equal to −6.5 eV and lower than or equal to −5.7 eV.

18 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the second organic compound is a basic compound having an acid dissociation constant pK a higher than or equal to 4 and lower than or equal to 8.

19 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the first organic compound has no electron-donating property with respect to the second organic compound.

20 . The light-emitting device according to claim 11 ,

wherein the mixed layer comprising the first organic compound and the second organic compound has spin density lower than or equal to 1×10 17 spins/cm 3 measured by an electron spin resonance method.
