Infrared-transparent porous polymer textile for human body cooling and heating
A method of regulating a temperature of a human body includes: (1) providing an article of clothing including a textile, wherein the textile includes at least one porous layer including a polyolefin; and (2) placing the article of clothing adjacent to the human body. The porous layer has pores having an average pore size in a range of 50 nm and 1000 nm.
1 . A textile comprising:
a first porous layer including a first polyolefin;
a first coating disposed immediately on the first porous layer, wherein the first coating comprises one of a carbonaceous material, a non-metal oxide, or a non-metal nitride;
a second coating comprising one of a metal or a metal alloy and disposed immediately on the first coating; and
a second porous layer including a second polyolefin and having a transmittance of infrared radiation at the wavelength of 9.5 μm of at least 40%, wherein the first coating and the second coating are disposed between the first porous layer and the second porous layer, and the second coating is in contact with the second porous layer,
wherein the first porous layer has a thickness greater than a thickness of the second porous layer, and the thickness of the second porous layer is about 12 μm;
wherein the first coating has a thickness greater than a thickness of the second coating, wherein the thickness of the first coating is about 4-9 μm and the thickness of the second coating is about 50-150 nm; and
wherein the first coating has a greater emissivity with respect to infrared radiation than the second coating.
2 . The textile of claim 1 , wherein the first porous layer has pores having an average pore size in a range of 50 nm and 1000 nm.

The textile of claim 1 , wherein the first coating has a first emissivity of infrared radiation at the wavelength of 9.5 μm, the second coating has a second emissivity of infrared radiation at the wavelength of 9.5 μm, and a difference between the first emissivity and the second emissivity is at least 0.4.
4 . The textile of claim 1 , wherein the first coating comprises the carbonaceous material, and wherein the carbonaceous material comprises carbon black.
5 . The textile of claim 1 , wherein the metal comprises one of copper, aluminum, or titanium.
