Abstract

A needle-free injection device including an outer housing, and an inner housing. The inner housing is moveable within the outer housing between a syringe loading position and a firing position. The needle-free injection device also includes a syringe mount to receive a needle-free syringe at one end of the inner housing. The syringe mount includes an interlocking structure cooperating with the inner housing and outer housing to prevent placement of the needle-free syringe into engagement with the syringe mount unless the inner housing is in the syringe loading position.

Claims (30)

1 . A needle-free injection device comprising:

an outer housing;

an inner housing, the inner housing being moveable within the outer housing between a syringe loading position and a firing position;

a syringe mount configured to receive a needle-free syringe at one end of the inner housing; and

an eject button in mechanical communication with the syringe mount such that activation of the eject button causes the syringe mount to release a mounted needle-free syringe.

2 . The needle-free injection device of claim 1 , wherein the syringe mount comprises a pawl configured to rotate to an outward position by contact with a surface of the needle-free syringe as the needle-free syringe is placed into engagement with the syringe mount, and wherein articulation of the eject button causes the pawl to rotate to the outward position when the inner housing is in the syringe loading position.

3 . The needle-free injection device of claim 2 , wherein the inner housing is prevented from moving from the syringe loading position to the firing position if the pawl is in the outward position.

4 . The needle-free injection device of claim 2 , further comprising an ejection spring configured to provide force to eject the needle-free syringe from the syringe mount upon activation of the eject button.

5 . The needle-free injection device of claim 4 , wherein the ejection spring provides sufficient force to completely eject the needle-free syringe away from any contact with the needle-free injection device upon activation of the eject button.

6 . The needle-free injection device of claim 4 , further comprising an ejection sleeve configured to receive a trailing end of the needle-free syringe, wherein the ejection spring is compressed upon loading of the needle-free syringe into the ejection sleeve.

7 . The needle-free injection device of claim 1 , further comprising an extension from the outer housing that fully or partially shields the eject button when the inner housing is moved from the syringe loading position toward the firing position.

8 . The needle-free injection device of claim 1 , wherein the needle-free syringe comprises an orientation structure configured to engage with guides on the syringe mount to prevent rotation of the needle-free syringe as the needle-free syringe is placed into engagement with the syringe mount.

9 . The needle-free injection device of claim 1 , wherein the syringe mount comprises a socket sized to receive a needle-free syringe.

10 . A needle-free injection device comprising:

a syringe mount configured to receive a needle-free syringe, the syringe mount comprising a socket sized to receive the needle-free syringe and at least one pawl adjacent to the socket and configured to grip the needle-free syringe; and

an ejection mechanism in mechanical communication with the syringe mount such that activation of the ejection mechanism causes the syringe mount to release a mounted needle-free syringe.

11 . The needle-free injection device of claim 10 , further comprising an ejection spring configured to provide force to eject the needle-free syringe from the syringe mount upon activation of the ejection mechanism.

12 . The needle-free injection device of claim 11 , wherein the ejection spring provides sufficient force to eject the needle-free syringe away from any contact with the needle-free injection device upon activation of the ejection mechanism.

13 . The needle-free injection device of claim 11 , further comprising an ejection sleeve configured to receive at least a portion of the needle-free syringe, wherein the ejection spring is compressed upon loading of the needle-free syringe into the ejection sleeve.

14 . The needle-free injection device of claim 10 , wherein the syringe mount further comprises at least one orientation structure configured to mate with the needle-free syringe without rotating the needle-free syringe or the syringe mount.

15 . The needle-free injection device of claim 10 , wherein the ejection mechanism comprises an eject button.

16 . A needle-free injection device comprising:

a syringe mount configured to receive a needle-free syringe; and

an ejection mechanism in mechanical communication with the syringe mount such that activation of the ejection mechanism causes the syringe mount to release a mounted needle-free syringe, the ejection mechanism including:

an ejection spring; and

an eject button, wherein activation of the eject button causes the ejection spring to decompress to eject a mounted needle-free syringe from the syringe mount.

17 . The needle-free injection device of claim 16 , wherein the ejection spring provides sufficient force to completely eject the needle-free syringe away from any contact with the needle-free injection device upon activation of the eject button.

18 . The needle-free injection device of claim 16 , further comprising an ejection sleeve configured to receive a trailing end of the needle-free syringe, wherein the ejection spring is compressed upon loading of the needle-free syringe into the ejection sleeve.

19 . The needle-free injection device of claim 16 , wherein the syringe mount comprises a socket sized to receive the needle-free syringe and at least one pawl adjacent to the socket and configured to grip the needle-free syringe.

20 . The needle-free injection device of claim 19 , wherein the syringe mount further comprises at least one orientation structure configured to mate with the needle-free syringe without rotating the needle-free syringe or the syringe mount.
