Abstract

A can end includes a main score forming in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end. The main score defines a tear panel. An anti-fracture score is disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score. The residual thickness of material after scoring ranges between 0.0045 and 0.0057 inch.

Claims (39)

1 . A can end comprising:

a main score disposed in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end, the main score defining a tear panel;

an anti-fracture score disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score, wherein a residual or thickness of material of scoring ranges from 0.0045 to 0.0057 inch; and

wherein the anti-fracture score has a residual or thickness of material that is greater than the main score residual.

2 . The can end of claim 1 , further comprising a shadow bead defined on the tear panel.

3 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the can end is formed in part by a blade with a width of between 0.0002 and 0.0008 inch.

4 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a width of 0.0012 inch.

5 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the anti-fracture score residual is between 0.001 and 0.003 inch higher than the main score residual.

6 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the main score and the anti-fracture score are disposed across a relieved portion of a bubble.

7 . A can end comprising:

a main score disposed in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end, the main score defining a tear panel; and

an anti-fracture score disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score,

wherein a residual or thickness of material of scoring ranges from 0.0045 to 0.0057 inch;

wherein an anti-fracture score residual is between 0.001 and 0.003 inch higher than a main score residual.

8 . The can end of claim 7 , further comprising a shadow bead defined on the tear panel.

9 . The can end of claim 7 , wherein the can end is formed in part by a blade with a width of between 0.0002 and 0.0008 inch.

10 . The can end of claim 7 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a residual or thickness of material that is greater than the main score residual.

11 . The can end of claim 7 , wherein the main score and the anti-fracture score are disposed across a relieved portion of a bubble.

12 . The can end of claim 7 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a width of 0.0012 inch.

13 . A can end comprising:

a main score disposed in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end, the main score defining a tear panel; and

an anti-fracture score disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score,

wherein a residual or thickness of material of scoring ranges from 0.0045 to 0.0057 inch;

wherein the main score and the anti-fracture score are disposed across a relieved portion of a bubble.

14 . The can end of claim 13 , further comprising a shadow bead defined on the tear panel.

15 . The can end of claim 13 , wherein the can end is formed in part by a blade with a width of between 0.0002 and 0.0008 inch.

16 . The can end of claim 13 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a residual or thickness of material that is greater than the main score residual.

17 . The can end of claim 13 , wherein an anti-fracture score residual is between 0.001 and 0.003 inch higher than a main score residual.

18 . The can end of claim 13 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a width of 0.0012 inch.

19 . A can end comprising:

a main score disposed in an arcuate pattern on an upper surface of the can end, the main score defining a tear panel; and

an anti-fracture score disposed parallel and contiguous with the main score,

wherein a residual or thickness of material of scoring ranges from 0.0045 to 0.0057 inch;

wherein the anti-fracture score has a width of 0.0012 inch.

20 . The can end of claim 19 , further comprising a shadow bead defined on the tear panel.

21 . The can end of claim 19 , wherein the can end is formed in part by a blade with a width of between 0.0002 and 0.0008 inch.

22 . The can end of claim 19 , wherein the anti-fracture score has a residual or thickness of material that is greater than the main score residual.

23 . The can end of claim 19 , wherein an anti-fracture score residual is between 0.001 and 0.003 inch higher than a main score residual.

24 . The can end of claim 19 , wherein the main score and the anti-fracture score are disposed across a relieved portion of a bubble.
