Rotating gin pole
The present invention includes a gin pole which can rotate and includes a traveling boom. The gin pole of the present invention can pick up and lay down joints of drill pipe, tubing and casing on plug and abandonment operations, while being independent of the crane.
1 . A gin pole comprising:
(a) an outer mast, the outer mast comprising stiffening bars;
(b) an inner mast received within the outer mast and telescopically extendable;
(c) a support base;
(d) a bearing which allows for a full 180 degree rotation of the gin pole;
(e) a travelling boom; and
(f) a connection for mounting or connecting said gin pole to a BOP baseplate connection, drill beam base connection, or jack basket.
2 . The gin pole of claim 1 , wherein the inner mast telescopically extends without locking pins.
3 . The gin pole of claim 1 , wherein telescopic extension of the inner mast is provided by a hydraulic cylinder.
4 . The gin pole of claim 1 , further comprising a slew drive, wherein the slew drive includes a hydraulic motor coupled to the bearing.
5 . The gin pole of claim 1 , further comprising a rotation stop configured to limit rotation to prevent hose wrap.
6 . The gin pole of claim 1 , wherein the gin pole is configured to operate without guy-wires when mounted to a workbasket.
7 . The gin pole of claim 1 , further comprising outer mast to stiffening bar connectors which connect the outer mast to the stiffening bars.
8 . The gin pole of claim 7 , wherein the gin pole further comprises first and second upper-basket connections respectively configured for use with the drill beam base connection and the BOP baseplate connection.
9 . The gin pole of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of: a sheave assembly configured to redirect a wire rope along a single plane, and an overhaul ball coupled to a hoist line to maintain line tension when no load is present.
10 . A rotating gin pole assembly mounted to a work platform and configured to handle tubular joints independent of a crane, the assembly comprising:
(a) a support base having a coupling feature configured to connect to a baseplate or a beam;
(b) a mast assembly including an inner mast and an outer mast, the inner mast vertically extendable as part of a telescoping assembly;
(c) a slewing bearing and a slew drive that together provide controllable rotation; and
(d) a travelling boom positioned generally perpendicularly to the mast assembly, the travelling boom adjustable to horizontally align a hook over a wellbore,
wherein the assembly includes features for mounting to a workbasket.
11 . The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising an upper-basket connection configured for use with a drill-beam base setup and a second upper-basket connection configured for use with a BOP baseplate setup.
12 . The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the support base includes both a BOP baseplate connection and a drill-beam base connection disposed on different sides of the support base.
13 . The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a rotation stop configured to limit rotation to prevent hose wrap.
14 . The assembly of claim 1 , wherein the assembly is configured to operate without guy-wires when mounted to the workbasket.
15 . The assembly of claim 10 , further comprising a hydraulic power unit fluidly connected to a hydraulic cylinder of the telescoping assembly and to a hydraulic motor of the slew drive.
16 . The assembly of claim 10 , wherein the mast assembly includes stiffening bars and connectors coupled to the outer mast.
17 . A gin pole comprising:
(a) a telescoping assembly;
(b) a bearing;
(c) a travelling boom; and
(d) at least one of a drill beam base connection, a BOP baseplate connection, and a first upper basket connection and a second upper basket connection;
wherein the telescoping assembly functions without locking pins and the bearing allows for a full 180 degree rotation of the gin pole.
18 . The gin pole of claim 17 wherein the gin pole does not utilize guy-wires.
19 . The gin pole of claim 17 wherein the gin pole further comprises a support base, said support base configured to work on BOP bases, drill beam bases, and work platforms.
