Abstract

In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for providing search results automatically to a user of a computing device. A spoken input provided by a user to a computing device is received. The spoken input is transmitted to a computer server system that is remote from the computing device. Search result information that is responsive to the spoken input is receiving by the computing device and in response to the transmitted spoken input. An alert is provided to the user that the device will connect the user to a target of the search result information if the user does not intervene to stop the connecting of the user. The user is connected to the target of the search result information based on a determination that the user has not intervened to stop the connecting of the user.

Claims (38)

1 . A computer-implemented method executing on data processing hardware that causes the data processing hardware to perform operations comprising:

receiving audio data recorded by a first computing device, the recorded audio corresponding to a query spoken by a user of the first computing device;

processing the recorded audio to produce a textual representation of the query;

determining, based on the textual representation of the query, that the query includes:

a name of a corresponding contact of the user, the name of the corresponding contact identifying an individual that is different than the user of the first computing device; and

a carrier phrase that identifies that the query is for causing the first computing device to initiate a call with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact automatically; and

based on determining the query includes the carrier phrase, invoking a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application installed on the first computing device to initiate the call with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact by connecting the first computing device to a second computing device over a VoIP network automatically, the second computing device:

different than the first computing device; and

associated with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein invoking the VoIP application causes the VoIP application connects the first computing device to the second computing device over the VoIP network without any additional inputs from the user after the first computing device records the audio data corresponding to the query.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first computing device records the audio data corresponding to the query using a microphone of the first computing device.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the carrier phrase included in the query comprises the word “call”.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the carrier phrase included in the query comprises the word “phone”.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first computing device comprises a mobile computing device.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the first computing device comprises a computerized workstation.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the data processing hardware resides on a remote server system in communication with the first computing device.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the VoIP application executes on the first computing device.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the data processing hardware resides on a remote server in communication with the second computing device.

11 . A system comprising:

data processing hardware; and

memory hardware in communication with the data processing hardware and storing instructions when executed on the data processing hardware cause the data processing hardware to perform operations comprising:

receiving audio data recorded by a first computing device, the recorded audio corresponding to a query spoken by a user of the first computing device;

processing the recorded audio to produce a textual representation of the query;

determining, based on the textual representation of the query, that the query includes:

a name of a corresponding contact of the user, the name of the corresponding contact identifying an individual that is different than the user of the first computing device; and

a carrier phrase that identifies that the query is for causing the first computing device to initiate a call with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact automatically; and

based on determining the query includes the carrier phrase, invoking a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application installed on the first computing device to initiate the call with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact by connecting the first computing device to a second computing device over a VoIP network automatically, the second computing device;

different than the first computing device; and

associated with the individual identified by the name of the corresponding contact.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein invoking the VoIP application causes the VoIP application connects the first computing device to the second computing device over the VoIP network without any additional inputs from the user after the first computing device records the audio data corresponding to the query.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first computing device records the audio data corresponding to the query using a microphone of the first computing device.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the carrier phrase included in the query comprises the word “call”.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the carrier phrase included in the query comprises the word “phone”.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first computing device comprises a mobile computing device.

17 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first computing device comprises a computerized workstation.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the data processing hardware resides on a remote server system in communication with the first computing device.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the VoIP application executes on the first computing device.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the data processing hardware resides on a remote server in communication with the second computing device.
