Abstract

The present application is at least directed to an apparatus on a network including a non-transitory memory including instructions stored thereon for beamforming training. The apparatus also includes a processor, operably coupled to the non-transitory memory, capable of executing the instructions of monitoring a first beamforming training reference signal (BT-RS) and physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of a network node to acquire symbol timing and subframe timing, where a common part of the PBCH includes a first beam ID. The processor is also configured to execute the instructions of transmitting, to the network node, a beam ID feedback with a unique training sequence generated based on the first beam ID to establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection. The processor is further configured to execute the instructions of receiving, from the network node, a second BT-RS to perform beamforming training. The processor even further is configured to execute the instructions of receiving, from the network node, downlink control information (DCI) carrying one or more second beam IDs. The one or more second beam IDs are associated with one or more beams configured via RRC signaling. Resources of the second BT-RS are configured by a RRC message via the RRC connection.

Claims (28)

1 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor configured to:

receive, from a network node, a signal comprising a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) transmission, wherein the PBCH transmission indicates subframe timing, and wherein the PBCH transmission indicates an identification (ID) associated with the PBCH transmission;

determine, based on the ID associated with the PBCH transmission, a sequence associated with a transmission sent by the WTRU to the network node, wherein the transmission sent by the WTRU is sent to establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection;

receive, from the network node, downlink control information (DCI), the DCI indicating a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) of a plurality of CSI-RSs configured via RRC signaling;

receive the CSI-RS based on the DCI; and

send a CSI measurement report to the network node, the CSI measurement report comprising a signal strength measurement associated with the CSI-RS.

2 . The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of CSI-RSs configured via the RRC signaling is associated with a respective downlink beam.

3 . The WTRU of claim 2 , wherein the CSI measurement report is sent to the network node to support beam selection.

4 . The WTRU of claim 2 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a data packet via a selected beam of respective downlink beams.

5 . The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to decode the PBCH transmission.

6 . The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to determine an optimal transmission beam for uplink based on the received signal comprising the PBCH transmission.

7 . The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein beamforming training is triggered by the DCI.

8 . The WTRU of claim 7 , wherein an interval of the beamforming training includes the DCI indicating one-on-one beamforming training.

9 . The WTRU of claim 7 , wherein the beamforming training is on-demand beamforming training.

10 . A method comprising:

receiving, from a network node, a signal comprising a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) transmission, wherein the PBCH transmission indicates subframe timing, and wherein the PBCH transmission indicates an identification (ID) associated with the PBCH transmission;

determining, based on the ID associated with the PBCH transmission, a sequence associated with a transmission sent by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) to the network node, wherein the transmission sent by the WTRU is sent to establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection;

receiving, from the network node, downlink control information (DCI), the DCI indicating a channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) of a plurality of CSI-RSs configured via RRC signaling;

receiving the CSI-RS based on the DCI; and

sending a CSI measurement report to the network node, the CSI measurement report comprising a signal strength measurement associated with the CSI-RS.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein each of the plurality of CSI-RSs configured via the RRC signaling is associated with a respective downlink beam.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the CSI measurement report is sent to the network node to support beam selection.

13 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving a data packet via a selected beam of respective downlink beams.

14 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising decoding the PBCH transmission.

15 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising determining an optimal transmission beam for uplink based on the received signal comprising the PBCH transmission.

16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein beamforming training is triggered by the DCI.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein an interval of the beamforming training includes the DCI indicating one-on-one beamforming training.

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the beamforming training is on-demand beamforming training.
