Abstract

Apparatuses, systems, and methods for positioning reference signals (PRSs) for reduced capacity devices, e.g., in 5G NR systems and beyond. A UE may be configured to receive, from a network (e.g., from a base station and/or an LMF), a first repetition of a frequency hopping (FH) PRS in a first frequency bandwidth. The first frequency bandwidth may be a subset of a full bandwidth used for full bandwidth PRSs. The UE may be configured to switch to a second frequency bandwidth that may be overlapped with the first frequency bandwidth. The second frequency bandwidth may be a subset of the full bandwidth. Additionally, the UE may be configured to receive a second repetition of the FH PRS in the second frequency bandwidth.

Claims (67)

1 . A method for performing location estimation using frequency hopping (FH) positioning reference signals (PRSs), comprising:

a user equipment device (UE),

receiving, from a network, a first repetition of a FH PRS in a first frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS is a full bandwidth PRS;

switching to a second frequency bandwidth;

receiving, from the network, a second repetition of the FH PRS in the second frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS are adjacent in frequency and are configured with tone overlap to support coherent stitching across frequency bands; and

receiving, from the network, an indication of a position of the UE.

2 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is at least partially overlapped with the first frequency bandwidth.

3 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is a subset of a full bandwidth used for a full bandwidth PRS.

4 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the UE comprises a reduced capacity UE.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the UE,

reporting, to the network, measurements of at least the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS.

6 . A user equipment device (UE), comprising:

at least one antenna;

at least one radio in communication with the at least one antenna and configured to communicate according to at least one radio access technology (RAT); and

one or more processors in communication with the at least one radio and configured to cause the UE to:

receive, from a network, a first repetition of a frequency hopping (FH) positioning reference signal (PRS) in a first frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS is a full bandwidth PRS;

switch to a second frequency bandwidth;

receive, from the network, a second repetition of the FH PRS in the second frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS are adjacent in frequency and are configured with tone overlap to support coherent stitching across frequency bands; and

receive, from the network, an indication of a position of the UE.

7 . The UE of claim 6 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is at least partially overlapped with the first frequency bandwidth.

8 . The UE of claim 6 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is a subset of a full bandwidth used for a full bandwidth PRS.

9 . The UE of claim 6 ,

wherein the UE comprises a reduced capacity UE.

10 . The UE of claim 6 ,

wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause the UE to:

report, to the network, one or more capabilities associated with a positioning procedure for location estimation.

11 . The UE of claim 6 ,

wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause the UE to:

report, to the network, measurements of at least the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS.

12 . An apparatus, comprising:

a memory; and

at least one processor in communication with the memory and configured to:

receive, from a network, a first repetition of a frequency hopping (FH) positioning reference signal (PRS) in a first frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS is a full bandwidth PRS;

switch to a second frequency bandwidth;

receive, from the network, a second repetition of the FH PRS in the second frequency bandwidth, wherein the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS are adjacent in frequency and are configured with tone overlap to support coherent stitching across frequency bands; and

receive, from the network, an indication of a position of the apparatus.

13 . The apparatus of claim 12 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is at least partially overlapped with the first frequency bandwidth.

14 . The apparatus of claim 12 ,

wherein the second frequency bandwidth is a subset of a full bandwidth used for a full bandwidth PRS.

15 . The apparatus of claim 12 ,

wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

report, to the network, measurements of at least the first repetition of the FH PRS and the second repetition of the FH PRS.

16 . The apparatus of claim 12 ,

wherein the apparatus is comprised in a reduced capacity user equipment device (UE).

17 . The apparatus of claim 12 ,
