Abstract

A computer-implemented method of displaying a user interface comprises: displaying a preview of a message on a screen; receiving a discard motion; displaying a discard instruction with varying opacity during the receiving, the opacity increasing in proportion to a range of the discard motion; reaching a minimum motion threshold; and discarding the message.

Claims (39)

1 . A method of displaying a user interface, comprising:

causing a display of a user-generated message on a screen;

detecting a discard motion comprising a lateral movement across the screen;

sliding the display of the user-generated message along the screen in a direction of the detected discard motion;

while detecting the discard motion, causing display of a discard instruction initially displayed at a first opacity and comprising an opacity increasing in proportion to a lateral range of the discard motion up to a second opacity until reaching a motion threshold without changing an opacity of the user-generated message;

discarding the displayed user-generated message; and

if the discard motion is released before reaching the motion threshold, returning the user-generated message to an original position on the screen.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing haptic feedback once the motion threshold is reached.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein sliding the display includes rubber banding resistance.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a discard warning if the message includes creative tools, the creative tools including special effects.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the discard motion is a swiping action.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the direction is leftwards and the discard motion is a finger moving leftward on the screen.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is an ephemeral message having a time-limited duration.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the displayed message includes video.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the discard motion comprises detecting continuous contact with a touch-sensitive surface of the screen throughout the lateral movement.

10 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more computer processors of a client device, cause the client device to perform operations comprising:

causing a display of a user-generated message on a screen;

detecting a discard motion comprising a lateral movement across the screen;

sliding the display of the user-generated message along the screen in a direction of the detected discard motion;

while detecting the discard motion, causing display of a discard instruction initially displayed at a first opacity and comprising an opacity increasing in proportion to a lateral range of the discard motion up to a second opacity until reaching a motion threshold without changing an opacity of the user-generated message;

discarding the displayed user-generated message; and

if the discard motion is released before reaching the motion threshold, returning the user-generated message to an original position on the screen.

11 . A device, comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to perform operations comprising:

causing a display of a user-generated message on a screen;

detecting a discard motion comprising a lateral movement across the screen;

sliding the display of the user-generated message along the screen in a direction of the detected discard motion;

while detecting the discard motion, causing display of a discard instruction initially displayed at a first opacity and comprising an opacity increasing in proportion to a lateral range of the discard motion up to a second opacity until reaching a motion threshold without changing an opacity of the user-generated message;

discarding the displayed user-generated message; and

if the discard motion is released before reaching the motion threshold, returning the user-generated message to an original position on the screen.

12 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise providing haptic feedback once the motion threshold is reached.

13 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the motion threshold is one third of a length of the screen.

14 . The device of claim 11 , wherein sliding the display includes rubber banding resistance.

15 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise displaying a discard warning if the message includes creative tools, the creative tools including special effects.

16 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the discard motion is a swiping action.

17 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the direction is leftwards and the discard motion is a finger moving leftward on the screen.

18 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the message is an ephemeral message having a time-limited duration.

19 . The device of claim 11 , wherein the displayed message includes video.
