Abstract

Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer readable media can be configured to perform operations comprising receiving, by a computing system, an incoming call; selecting, by the computing system, an application of a plurality of applications having calling functionality and installed on a computing device of a user to provide at least one of a notification of the incoming call or a notification of a missed call associated with the incoming call; and causing, by the computing system, the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call.

Claims (57)

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, by a computing system, an incoming call;

selecting, by the computing system, an application of a plurality of applications having calling functionality and installed on a computing device of a user to provide at least one of a notification of the incoming call or a notification of a missed call associated with the incoming call, wherein selecting the application comprises:

determining that the user has not specified a preferred application of the plurality of applications;

in response to determining that the user has not specified the preferred application, determining that the user is not active in an application of the plurality of applications; and

in response to determining that the user is not active in the application, determining that the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller; and

causing, by the computing system, the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining, by the computing system, that the user has just one of a first application or a second application installed on the computing device,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the installed application of the first application or the second application.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising at least one of:

determining, by the computing system, that the user has both a first application and a second application installed on the computing device; or

determining, by the computing system, that the user is active in the first application,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining, by the computing system, if an application has permission to use at least one of a camera or a microphone,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the application having the permission to use at least one of the camera or the microphone.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining, by the computing system, if an application has a higher recency score in comparison to other applications,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the application having the higher recency score.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining, by the computing system, if an application is consistent with a use case of an application that initiated the incoming call,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the application that is consistent with the use case of the application that initiated the incoming call.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the causing the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call comprises:

causing, by the computing system, provision of the notification of the incoming call on a first application of the plurality of applications; and

causing, by the computing system, provision of the notification of the missed call on a second application of the plurality of applications.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the notification of the incoming call is a ring.

9 . A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising:

receiving an incoming call;

selecting an application of a plurality of applications having calling functionality and installed on a computing device of a user to provide at least one of a notification of the incoming call or a notification of a missed call associated with the incoming call, wherein selecting the application comprises:

determining that the user has not specified a preferred application of the plurality of applications;

in response to determining that the user has not specified the preferred application, determining that the user is not active in an application of the plurality of applications; and

in response to determining that the user is not active in the application, determining that the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller; and

causing the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining that the user has just one of a first application or a second application installed on the computing device,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the installed application of the first application or the second application.

11 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising at least one of:

determining that the user has both of a first application and a second application installed on the computing device; or

determining that the user is active in the first application,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller.

12 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform operations comprising:

receiving an incoming call;

selecting an application of a plurality of applications having calling functionality and installed on a computing device of a user to provide at least one of a notification of the incoming call or a notification of a missed call associated with the incoming call, wherein selecting the application comprises:

determining that the user has not specified a preferred application of the plurality of applications;

in response to determining that the user has not specified the preferred application, determining that the user is not active in an application of the plurality of applications; and

in response to determining that the user is not active in the application, determining that the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller; and

causing the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the selecting an application of the plurality of applications comprises:

determining that the user has just one of a first application or a second application installed on the computing device,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is the installed application of the first application or the second application.

14 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 12 , further comprising at least one of:

determining that the user has both a first application and a second application installed on the computing device; or

determining that the user is active in the application,

wherein the application to provide at least one of the notification of the incoming call or the notification of the missed call is an application through which the incoming call was initiated on a computing device of a caller.
