Abstract

A method of efficient signalizing of picture size and partitioning information in a video bitstream, is performed by at least one processor and includes obtaining, from a sequence parameter set (SPS) to which a coded picture refers, a flag indicating whether the picture size and partitioning information of the coded picture is included in the SPS, and determining whether the obtained flag indicates that the picture size and partitioning information is included in the SPS. The method further includes based on the flag being determined to indicate that the picture size and partitioning information is included in the SPS, obtaining, from the SPS, the picture size and partitioning information, and based on the flag being determined to indicate that the picture size and partitioning information is not included in the SPS, obtaining, from a video parameter set (VPS), the picture size and partitioning information that is included in the VPS.

Claims (27)

1 . A method of video encoding, and the method comprising:

receiving a picture;

generating a picture parameter set (PPS) comprising (i) a first syntax element that indicates whether first picture size information associated with the picture is present in the PPS, (ii) the first picture size information indicating a first width and a first height associated with the picture when the first syntax element is equal to 1, (iii) a second syntax element indicating whether conformance window offsets are present in the PPS, and (iv) the conformance window offsets when the second syntax element is equal to 1, both the first syntax element and the second syntax element being present in the PPS irrespective of respective values of the first syntax element and the second syntax element;

generating a sequence parameter set (SPS) comprising second picture size information that indicates a second width and a second height associated with the picture, the second picture size information indicating a picture size of the picture when the first picture size information is not present in the PPS; and

encoding the picture, the PPS, and the SPS in a bitstream.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein

the PPS includes an update flag indicating whether picture size information is updated in the PPS.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the updated picture size information comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture that are updated.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the SPS comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture.

5 . An apparatus for video decoding, the apparatus comprising:

processing circuitry configured to receive a coded video bitstream;

decode, from the coded video bitstream, a picture parameter set (PPS) comprising (i) a first syntax element that indicates whether first picture size information associated with a picture in the coded video bitstream is present in the PPS, (ii) the first picture size information indicating a first width and a first height associated with the picture when the first syntax element is equal to 1, (iii) a second syntax element indicating whether conformance window offsets are present in the PPS, and (iv) the conformance window offsets when the second syntax element is equal to 1, both the first syntax element and the second syntax element being present in the PPS irrespective of respective values of the first syntax element and the second syntax element;

decode a sequence parameter set (SPS) comprising second picture size information that indicates a second width and a second height associated with the picture, the second picture size information indicating a picture size of the picture when the first picture size information is not present in the PPS; and

reconstruct the picture based on the PPS and the SPS.

6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein

the PPS includes an update flag indicating whether picture size information is updated in the PPS.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the updated picture size information comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture that are updated.

8 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the SPS comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture.

9 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform a method of encoding a bitstream comprising:

receiving a picture;

generating a picture parameter set (PPS) comprising (i) a first syntax element that indicates whether first picture size information associated with the picture is present in the PPS, (ii) the first picture size information indicating a first width and a first height associated with the picture when the first syntax element is equal to 1, (iii) a second syntax element indicating whether conformance window offsets are present in the PPS, and (iv) the conformance window offsets when the second syntax element is equal to 1, both the first syntax element and the second syntax element being present in the PPS irrespective of respective values of the first syntax element and the second syntax element;

generating a sequence parameter set (SPS) comprising second picture size information that indicates a second width and a second height associated with the picture, the second picture size information indicating a picture size of the picture when the first picture size information is not present in the PPS;

encoding the picture, the PPS, and the SPS in the bitstream; and

transmitting the bitstream.

10 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the PPS includes an update flag indicating whether picture size information is updated in the PPS.

11 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the updated picture size information comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture that are updated.

12 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the SPS comprises one or more of the conformance window offsets of the picture, tile brick partitioning information of the picture, rectangular slice partitioning information of the picture, or sub-picture partitioning information of the picture and sub-picture conformance window offsets of the picture.
