System and a method for generating and distributing multimedia content
Systems and methods are provided herein for generating and storing secondary content implemented by a content server having a data storage, including defining secondary content as media content created from the combination of media portions and storing the secondary content metadata in the data storage of the content server. The secondary content metadata enables the content server to subsequently generate the secondary content by obtaining and extracting the defined media portions from the primary content stored in the data storage and merging the extracted portions.
1 . A method for generating secondary content implemented by a content server having a data storage, the method comprising the steps of:
storing, in the data storage, one or more pieces of primary content received by the content server, wherein received pieces of primary content are processed to identify a set of one or more feature instances, each feature instance associated with a predefined feature and defining a position within the respective piece of primary content at which said associated feature is present;
receiving, from a first client device in data communication with the content server, a search request, the search request specifying one or more search features;
determining one or more pieces of primary content for searching in relation to the search request;
identifying one or more feature instances in the searched primary content having an associated feature instance corresponding to one or more search features;
communicating an instruction to the first client device to display on a user interface of the client device a representation of the identified one or more feature instances;
receiving, from the first client device, an ordered selection of one or more of the identified feature instances;
determining for the, or each, selected identified feature instance a corresponding media portion corresponding to a portion of the primary media defined by the position associated with the particular selected feature instance;
creating a secondary content metadata defining, according to the ordered selection, the combination of the one or more determined media portions, thereby defining secondary content being media content capable of creation from the combination of media portions;
storing the secondary content metadata in the data storage of the content server without permanently storing the secondary content,
wherein the secondary content metadata enables the content server, in response to a request from a client device, to subsequently generate the secondary content by obtaining and extracting the defined media portions from the primary content stored in the data storage and merging the extracted portions; and
providing a template defining rules for creating secondary content, wherein the rules confine the generated secondary content to include one or more required content elements, the one or more required content elements being selectable by a content owner from a media pool comprising the set of one or more feature instances and a pool of media that is not derived from the received pieces of primary content, wherein the template further defines an arrangement on the user interface of the client device of one or more user regions and one or more owner regions, wherein the one or more user regions each allow for a user to select, via the client device, feature instances for the user region when creating a secondary content, whereas the one or more owner regions each display one of the one or more required content elements.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing one or more sub-systems, wherein a client device interacts with a sub-system when interacting with the content server, each associated with a content owner, where the content owner of a particular sub-system is enabled to control access to primary content to users accessing its associated sub-system and/or control the creation of secondary content by said users.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the primary content and the secondary content comprise video media.

10 . A content creation system comprising a content server in network communication with one or more client devices via a network, the content server configured to:
store, in a data storage of the content server, one or more pieces of primary content received by the content server, wherein received pieces of primary content are processed by the content server to identify a set of one or more feature instances, each feature instance associated with a predefined feature and defining a position within the respective piece of primary content at which said associated feature is present;
receive, from a first client device in data communication with the content server, a search request, the search request specifying one or more search features;
determine one or more pieces of primary content for searching in relation to the search request;
identify one or more feature instances in the searched primary content having an associated feature instance corresponding to one or more search features;
communicate an instruction to the first client device to display on a user interface of the client device a representation of the identified one or more feature instances;
receive, from the first client device, an ordered selection of one or more of the identified feature instances;
