Abstract

A method and apparatus for monitoring paging in a mobile communication system are provided. Method for monitoring paging includes receiving a first message including first paging cycle and second paging cycle from the AMF, receiving a second message including third paging cycle and fourth paging cycle from the base station, receiving a system information including an information related to the support of extended DRX, determining a reference DRX cycle, monitoring paging occasion based on the reference DRX cycle and receiving a paging.

Claims (40)

1 . A method performed by a terminal, the method comprising:

receiving, from an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), a first message including a first discontinuous reception cycle and a second discontinuous reception cycle;

receiving, from a base station, a second message including a third discontinuous reception cycle and a fourth discontinuous reception cycle;

receiving a system information in a first cell;

determining a reference paging cycle;

determining a paging frame based on the reference paging cycle;

monitoring, in the first cell, a paging occasion in the paging frame;

receiving, from the base station, a third message; and

applying transparent mode radio link control configuration at a specific time point in case that:

a specific bit of the third message is set to one; and

the second discontinuous reception cycle is longer than a product of a specific integer and a default discontinuous reception cycle,

wherein:

the specific time point is determined based on a hyper frame number;

the specific integer is indicated in the system information; and

the default discontinuous reception cycle is indicated in the system information.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting to the base station a message including information indicating whether the terminal supports extended discontinuous reception in an RRC_INACTIVE state.

3 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the reference paging cycle is determined based on:

the first discontinuous reception cycle and the third discontinuous reception cycle in case that a specific bit is not included in system information block 1 (SIB1); and

the first discontinuous reception cycle and the fourth discontinuous reception cycle in case that the specific bit is included in the SIB1.

4 . The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the specific bit indicates that extended discontinuous reception is allowed.

5 . A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver configured to transmit and receive signals; and

a controller configured to control the transceiver to:

receive, from an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF), a first message including a first discontinuous reception cycle and a second discontinuous reception cycle;

receive, from a base station, a second message including a third discontinuous reception cycle and a fourth discontinuous reception cycle;

receive a system information in a first cell;

determine a reference paging cycle;

determine a paging frame based on the reference paging cycle;

monitor a paging occasion in the paging frame;

receive from the base station a third message; and

apply transparent mode radio link control configuration at a specific time point in case that:

a specific bit of the third message is set to one; and

the second discontinuous reception cycle is longer than a product of a specific integer and a default discontinuous reception cycle,

wherein:

the specific time point is determined based on a hyper frame number;

the specific integer is indicated in the system information; and

the default discontinuous reception cycle is indicated in the system information.
