Abstract

A method of establishing a connection between a wireless device and a wireless communication network includes receiving, at a first transmission/reception point, TRP, a random access request from the wireless device on a random access channel of a first cell associated with the first TRP, and transmitting, by the first TRP, a synchronization signal block, SSB, equivalent indication to the wireless device, wherein the SSB equivalent indication corresponds to a second cell.

Claims (34)

1 . A method of establishing a connection between a wireless device and a wireless communication network, comprising:

receiving, at a first transmission/reception point TRP, a random access request from the wireless device on a random access channel of a first cell associated with the first TRP; and

after receiving the random access request, transmitting, by the first TRP, a synchronization signal block SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device, wherein the SSB equivalent indication corresponds to a second cell and encodes a physical cell identity (PCI) of the second cell.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the first TRP, a first SSB associated with the first TRP; and

transmitting, by the first TRP, a second SSB, wherein the second SSB is associated with the second cell.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the SSB equivalent indication is performed in response to receiving a radio resource control RRC connection request from the wireless device.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein transmitting the SSB equivalent indication comprises transmitting the SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device in an RRC connection setup message.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second cell is a multiple-TRP cell encompassing the first cell and a third cell.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the SSB equivalent indication corresponds to the multiple-TRP cell.

7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the second SSB configures the second cell as unavailable for camping.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting a random access response to the wireless device in response to the random access request; and

receiving a connection request from the wireless device in response to the random access response; and

wherein transmitting the SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device comprises transmitting the SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device in response to the connection request.

9 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the second cell comprises a multiple-TRP cell that is defined in that at least two TRPs transmit identical synchronization signal blocks at a same time and frequency so that the wireless device perceives the identical synchronization signal blocks to represent a same synchronization signal block.

10 . The method according to claim 9 , wherein SSBs defining the multiple-TRP cell transmitted from different TRPs comprise the same physical cell identity of the multiple-TRP cell.

11 . A network node comprising:

processing circuitry and a memory, said memory containing instructions executable by said processing circuitry whereby said network node is operative to:

receive, at a first transmission/reception point TRP, a random access request from a wireless device on a random access channel of a first cell associated with the first TRP; and

after receiving the random access request, transmit, from the first TRP, a synchronization signal block SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device, wherein the SSB equivalent indication corresponds to a second cell and encodes a physical cell identity (PCI) of the second cell.

12 . The network node of claim 11 , wherein the network node is further operative to:

transmit, by the first TRP, a first SSB associated with the first TRP; and

transmit, by the first TRP, a second SSB, wherein the second SSB is associated with the second cell.

13 . The network node of claim 11 , wherein the network node is operative to transmit the SSB equivalent indication in response to receiving a radio resource control RRC connection request from the wireless device.

14 . The network node of claim 13 , wherein the network node is operative to transmit the SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device in an RRC connection setup message.

15 . The network node of claim 11 , wherein the second cell is a multiple-TRP cell encompassing the first cell and a third cell.

16 . The network node of claim 15 , wherein the SSB equivalent indication corresponds to the multiple-TRP cell.

17 . The network node of claim 11 , wherein the network node is further operative to:

transmit a random access response to the wireless device in response to the random access request;

receive a connection request from the wireless device in response to the random access response; and

transmit the SSB equivalent indication to the wireless device in response to the connection request.

18 . The network node according to claim 11 , wherein the second cell comprises a multiple-TRP cell that is defined in that at least two TRPs transmit identical synchronization signal blocks at a same time and frequency so that the wireless device perceives the identical synchronization signal blocks to represent a same synchronization signal block.

19 . The network node according to claim 12 , wherein the network node is operative to receive SSB configuration data from a NG-RAN node defining the first and second SSBs, wherein transmitting the first SSB and transmitting the second SSB are performed according to the received SSB configuration data.
