Abstract

A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor includes a hydrophobic polymer backbone (e.g., a hydrophobic poly(methyl methacrylate) polymer backbone) and at least one hydrophilic polymer arm (such as a hydrophilic oligo(N-vinylpyrrolidinone) polymer arm) attached to the hydrophobic polymer backbone. The redox polymer also includes a plurality of redox mediators (e.g., ferrocene-based redox mediators) attached to the at least one hydrophilic polymer arm.

Claims (17)

1. A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor, the redox polymer comprising:

a hydrophobic polymer backbone;

at least one hydrophilic polymer arm attached to the hydrophobic polymer backbone; and

a plurality of redox mediators for facilitating electron transfer between at least one redox enzyme of the electrochemical-based sensor and at least one electrode of the electrochemical-based sensor, the plurality of redox mediators attached to the at least one hydrophilic polymer arm,

wherein the hydrophobic polymer backbone is a hydrophobic poly(methyl methacrylate) polymer backbone.

2. A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor, the redox polymer comprising:

a hydrophobic polymer backbone;

at least one hydrophilic polymer arm attached to the hydrophobic polymer backbone; and

a plurality of redox mediators for facilitating electron transfer between at least one redox enzyme of the electrochemical-based sensor and at least one electrode of the electrochemical-based sensor, the plurality of redox mediators attached to the at least one hydrophilic polymer arm,

wherein the hydrophilic polymer arm is a hydrophilic oligo(N-vinylpyrrolidinone) polymer arm.

3. A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor, the redox polymer comprising:

a hydrophobic polymer backbone formed from methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers;

at least one hydrophilic polymer arm attached to the hydrophobic polymer backbone and formed from N-vinylpyrrolidinone (N/P) monomers; and

a plurality of ferrocene redox mediators attached to the at least one hydrophilic arm and formed from vinyl ferrocene (VFc).

4. The redox polymer of claim 3 , wherein the mole ratio of MMA monomers to hydrophilic polymer arms is in the range of about 50:1 to 150:1.

5. The redox polymer of claim 4 , wherein the mole ratio of NVP to VFc is in the range of about 100:1 to about 100:5.

6. The redox polymer of claim 5 , wherein the redox polymer has a molecular weight in the range of 20 Kg/mole to 80 Kg/mole.
