Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a fiber optic network configuration having an optical network terminal located at a subscriber location. The fiber optic network configuration also includes a drop terminal located outside the subscriber location and a wireless transceiver located outside the subscriber location. The fiber optic network further includes a cabling arrangement including a first signal line that extends from the drop terminal to the optical network terminal, a second signal line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver, and a power line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver.

Claims (44)

1. A fiber optic network configuration comprising:

an optical network terminal located at a subscriber location;

a drop terminal located outside the subscriber location, the drop terminal including a first exterior port and a first interior port corresponding to the first exterior port;

a wireless transceiver located outside the subscriber location; and

a cabling arrangement including a first optical signal line that extends from the first exterior port of the drop terminal to the optical network terminal, a second optical signal line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver, and a power line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver;

wherein the drop terminal further includes a second exterior port and a second interior port corresponding to the second exterior port and wherein a third optical signal line extends from the second exterior port of the drop terminal to the wireless transceiver.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 1 , wherein the first exterior port and the first interior port of the drop terminal are included on a fiber optic adapter of the drop terminal, wherein the first interior port is accessible from inside a housing of the drop terminal when a cover is removed from the drop terminal, and wherein the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement is terminated by an exterior fiber optic connector that forms an environmental seal with the first exterior port of the drop terminal.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 2 , wherein the drop terminal terminates a fiber distribution cable, wherein the fiber distribution cable includes a plurality of optical fibers terminated by a plurality of interior fiber optic connectors, respectively, within the housing of the drop terminal, and wherein the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement is optically connected to one of the plurality of optical fibers of the fiber distribution cable by connecting the interior fiber optic connector of the one of the plurality of optical fibers to the first interior port of the fiber optic adapter and by connecting the exterior fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line to the first exterior port of the fiber optic adapter.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 3 , wherein internal threads of the first exterior port of the drop terminal secure external threads of the exterior fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement and thereby secure the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

5. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 1 , wherein the wireless transceiver is located within the drop terminal.

6. A fiber optic network configuration comprising:

an optical network terminal located at a subscriber location;

a drop terminal located outside the subscriber location, the drop terminal including a first exterior port and a first interior port corresponding to the first exterior port;

a wireless transceiver located outside the subscriber location; and

a cabling arrangement including a first optical signal line that extends from the first exterior port of the drop terminal to the optical network terminal, a second optical signal line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver, and a power line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver;

wherein an optical signal is conveyed from the drop terminal to the optical network terminal through the first optical signal line, wherein the optical signal is split at the optical network terminal to provide a split optical signal, and wherein the split optical signal is backfed from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver through the second optical signal line.

7. A fiber optic network configuration comprising:

a drop terminal including a first exterior port and a first interior port, the first exterior port and the first interior port included in a fiber optic adapter that is environmentally sealed to a housing of the drop terminal, the drop terminal further including a second exterior port and a second interior port corresponding to the second exterior port;

a wireless transceiver;

a cabling arrangement including a first optical signal line that extends from the first exterior port of the drop terminal to the wireless transceiver; and

an optical network terminal located at a subscriber location;

wherein a second optical signal line extends from the second exterior port of the drop terminal to the optical network terminal;

wherein the drop terminal is located outside the subscriber location; and

wherein an optical signal is conveyed from the drop terminal to the optical network terminal through the second optical signal line, wherein the optical signal is split at the optical network terminal to provide a split optical signal, and wherein the split optical signal is backfed from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver through the first optical signal line.

8. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 7 , wherein the cabling arrangement further includes a power line that extends from the optical network terminal to the wireless transceiver.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 7 , wherein internal threads of the first exterior port of the drop terminal secure external threads of a fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement and thereby secure the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

10. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 7 , wherein a seal of the fiber optic connector seals with the first exterior port of the drop terminal and thereby environmentally seals the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

11. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 7 , wherein a threaded connection between the first exterior port of the drop terminal and a fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement secures the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

12. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 11 , wherein a seal between a housing of the fiber optic connector and a housing of the first exterior port environmentally seals the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

13. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 7 , wherein the cabling arrangement further includes a power line that extends from an adjacent utility to the wireless transceiver.

14. A fiber optic network configuration comprising:

a drop terminal including a first exterior port and a first interior port, the first exterior port and the first interior port included in a fiber optic adapter that is environmentally sealed to a housing of the drop terminal, the drop terminal further including a second exterior port and a second interior port corresponding to the second exterior port;

a wireless transceiver;

a cabling arrangement including a first optical signal line that extends from the first exterior port of the drop terminal to the wireless transceiver; and

an optical network terminal located at a subscriber location;

wherein the cabling arrangement further includes a first power line that extends from the drop terminal to the wireless transceiver;

wherein the cabling arrangement further includes a second power line that extends from the optical network terminal to the drop terminal and a second optical signal line that extends from the second exterior port of the drop terminal to the optical network terminal; and

wherein electrical power is supplied to the wireless transceiver via the first and the second power lines.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 14 , wherein the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement includes a fiber optic connector with electrical contacts that electrically contact corresponding electrical contacts of the fiber optic adapter and thereby electrically connects the first power line to the drop terminal.

The fiber optic network configuration of claim 14 , wherein internal threads of the first exterior port of the drop terminal secure external threads of a fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement and thereby secure the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

17. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 16 , wherein a seal of the fiber optic connector seals with the first exterior port of the drop terminal and thereby environmentally seals the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

18. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 14 , wherein a threaded connection between the first exterior port of the drop terminal and a fiber optic connector of the first optical signal line of the cabling arrangement secures the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

19. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 14 , wherein a seal between a housing of the fiber optic connector and a housing of the first exterior port environmentally seals the first optical signal line to the drop terminal.

20. The fiber optic network configuration of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the power lines extends from an adjacent utility to the wireless transceiver.
