Abstract

A golf ball comprising a single layer core formed from a substantially homogenous formulation and comprising a geometric center and an outer surface; a hardness of the outer surface is greater than a hardness of the geometric center. An inner core region is disposed about the geometric center and has a first hardness that is less than those of the geometric center and the outer surface; an outer core region is adjacent the outer surface and has a second hardness that is greater than those of the geometric center and the outer surface; and an intermediate core region is disposed between the inner and outer core regions and extends radially from about 5 mm to about 15.75 mm from the geometric center and has at least a third hardness and a fourth hardness, each of which are related to the first hardness and the second hardness in various ways.

Claims (13)

1. A golf ball comprising:

a single layer core and a cover layer disposed about the single layer core,

the single layer core being formed from a substantially homogenous formulation and comprising a geometric center and an outer surface wherein a hardness of the outer surface is greater than a hardness of the geometric center;

the single layer core further comprising an inner core region disposed about the geometric center, an outer core region adjacent the outer surface, and an intermediate core region disposed between the inner and outer core regions and extending radially from about 5 mm to about 15.75mm from the geometric center;

wherein the inner core region has a first hardness and the outer core region has a second hardness; and

wherein the intermediate core region has a third hardness, a fourth hardness and a plurality of hardnesses extending between the third hardness and the fourth hardness;

the first hardness being less than the hardness of the geometric center and the hardness of the outer surface;

the second hardness being greater than the hardness of the geometric center and the hardness of the outer surface;

the third hardness being substantially the same as the first hardness and less than the second hardness;

the fourth hardness being greater than the first hardness and less than the second hardness; and

the plurality of hardnesses increasing from the third hardness to the fourth hardness.

2. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the hardness of the geometric center is from about 30 Shore C to about 75 Shore C.

3. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the hardness of the geometric center is from about 20 Shore D to about 55 Shore D.
