Methods for treating multiple sclerosis with GGF-related polypeptides
View Patent ↗Disclosed is the characterization and purification of DNA encoding polypeptides useful for the stimulation of glial cell mitogenesis. Methods for the synthesis, purification and testing of both known and novel polypeptides for their use as both therapeutic and diagnostic aids in the treatment of diseases involving glial cells are also provided. Methods are also provided for the use of these polypeptides in the prevention or treatment of multiple sclerosis.
1. A method for the treatment of multiple sclerosis said method, comprising administering to a subject with multiple sclerosis a polypeptide which comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 188 or 189, the amino acid sequence of which is identical to an amino acid sequence encoded by a GGF/p185 erb B2 ligand gene, said administering in an amount sufficient to treat multiple sclerosis.
2. A method for the treatment of multiple sclerosis said method, comprising administering to a subject with multiple sclerosis a polypeptide which comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 188 or 189 and binds a p185 erb B2 receptor, said administering in an amount sufficient to treat multiple sclerosis.
3. A method for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, said method comprising administering to a subject with multiple sclerosis a recombinant polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 188 or 189 and having glial cell mitogenic activity, said administering in an amount sufficient to treat multiple sclerosis.
