Abstract

A vertically alignment mode liquid crystal display device having an improved viewing angle characteristic is disclosed. The disclosed liquid crystal display device uses a liquid crystal having a negative anisotropic dielectric constant, and orientations of the liquid crystal are vertical to substrates when no voltage being applied, almost horizontal when a predetermined voltage is applied, and oblique when an intermediate voltage is applied. At least one of the substrates includes a structure as domain regulating means, and inclined surfaces of the structure operate as a trigger to regulate azimuths of the oblique orientations of the liquid crystal when the intermediate voltage is applied.

Claims (24)

1. A color filter (CF) substrate comprising:

a color filter formed on the color filter (CF) substrate;

a transparent electrode formed on said color filter; and

protrusions formed on said transparent electrode, said protrusions being formed of dielectric materials,

wherein each of said protrusions extends in one direction and is bent in a zigzag shape at an interval of a predetermined cycle,

wherein said protrusions are arranged in parallel to one another with a predetermined pitch, and

wherein said predetermined cycle is equal to an arranging pitch of pixels in a direction in which a longer edge of each pixel extends.

2. A color filter (CF) comprising:

a color filter formed on the color filter (CF) substrate;

a transparent electrode formed on said color filter; and

protrusions formed on said transparent electrode, said protrusions being formed of dielectric materials,

wherein each of said protrusions extends in one direction and is bent in a zigzag shape at an interval of a predetermined cycle,

wherein said protrusions are formed of photosensitive resist,

wherein said protrusions are arranged in parallel to one another with a predetermined pitch, and

wherein said predetermined cycle is equal to an arranging pitch of pixels in a direction in which a longer edge of each pixel extends.

3. A color filter (CF) substrate comprising:

a color filter formed on the color filter (CF) substrate;

a transparent electrode formed on said color filter; and

protrusions formed on said transparent electrode, said protrusions being formed of dielectric materials,

wherein each of said protrusions extends in one direction and is bent in a zigzag shape at an interval of a predetermined cycle,

wherein said protrusions are formed of photosensitive resist,

wherein said photosensitive resist is a positive type,

wherein said protrusions are arranged in parallel to one another with a predetermined pitch, and

wherein said predetermined cycle is equal to an arranging pitch of pixels in a direction in which a longer edge of each pixel extends.
