Thermoelastic actuator design
View Patent ↗The invention concerns thermoelastic designs incorporating and expansive element formed from material selected in accordance a procedure involving the derivation of an indicator of the material's potential effectiveness for each application.
1. A thermoelastic actuator that comprises an expansive element of a material or combinations of materials selected from a group consisting of silicides and carbides of titanium, having
a resistivity between 0.1 μΩm and 10.0 μΩm and being
chemically inert in air.
2. An actuator as claimed in claim 1 , in which the materials or combinations of material are chemically inert in ink and are depositable by CVD, sputtering or other thin film deposition techniques.
3. A thermoelastic actuator that comprises an expansive element of a material or combinations of materials selected from consisting of borides, silicides, carbides and nitrides of tantalum, molybdenum, niobium, chromium, tungsten, vanadium, and zirconium, having
a resistivity between 0.1 μΩm and 10.0 μΩm and being
chemically inert in air.
4. An actuator as claimed in claim 3 , in which the materials or combinations of material are chemically inert in ink and are depositable by CVD, sputtering or other thin film deposition techniques.
5. A thermoelastic actuator that comprises an expansive element of an alloy material or combinations of alloy materials selected from the consisting of borides, silicides, carbides and nitrides of titanium, tantalum, molybdenum, niobium, chromium, tungsten, vanadium, and zirconium, having
a resistivity between 0.1 μΩm and 10.0 μΩm and being
chemically inert in air.
6. An actuator as claimed in claim 5 , in which the alloy material or combinations of alloy materials are chemically inert in ink and are depositable by CVD, sputtering or other thin film deposition techniques.
