Storage system for powdered pharmaceuticals, and inhaler equipped with this system
View Patent ↗A cartridge for powdered pharmaceuticals. At least two storage spaces are provided which are separate from each other and which are each intended to hold a multiplicity of doses of a medically active substance. The storage spaces are individual cartridges which may be lockingly coupled together to form a single cartridge. Each individual cartridge has a metering cavity.
1. A reusable cartridge apparatus for powdered pharmaceuticals for use with a powder inhaler to enable substantially simultaneous administration of several medicines, said cartridge apparatus comprising a small modular container which can be easily changed and which is adapted for insertion into a said powder inhaler, said cartridge apparatus configured to receive a plurality of doses of at least one medically active substance, said cartridge apparatus comprising a plurality of separate, cartridges, each cartridge including an unpressurized storage compartment and a closure member and said cartridges adapted to hold a plurality of doses of a powdered medically active substance, said cartridges coupled together to form said reusable cartridge apparatus, each said cartridge having a metering cavity and associated metering slide operatively associated therewith, said metering slides simultaneously operable to apportion a predetermined quantity of powdered medically active substance from each of said storage compartments of said cartridges.
2. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said cartridge apparatus includes two said cartridges, each said cartridge including a said storage compartment.
3. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 including means for combining said quantities apportioned by said metering slides.
4. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said metering cavities are coupled together and define a metering device.
5. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said individual cartridges each have an indexing means which only permits coupling together of preselected individual cartridges.
6. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 5 wherein said indexing means comprises mating protrusions and depressions located on respective said individual cartridges.
7. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 6 wherein said protrusions and depressions are each arranged in the form of a matrix.
8. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 further including locking means for lockingly coupling together said individual cartridges.
9. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 8 wherein said locking means permanently couples said individual cartridges together whereby said individual cartridges cannot be separated without damaging said individual cartridges.
10. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 including an indicator for indicating at least one of the quantity of pharmaceutical doses remaining in one said compartment and pharmaceutical doses removed from one said compartment.
11. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said cartridges have mirror image symmetry.
12. A reusable pharmaceutical powder cartridge apparatus for use with a powder inhaler, said cartridge apparatus comprising a small modular container which can be easily changed, said cartridge apparatus adapted for insertion into a said powder inhaler, said cartridge apparatus comprising two separate cartridges, each cartridge including an unpressurized storage compartment, said cartridges mechanically coupled together to form said reusable powder cartridge apparatus, each said cartridge including a closure member and said cartridges adapted to receive a plurality of doses of a powdered pharmaceutically active substance, each said cartridge having a metering cavity and associated metering slide, said metering slides operable to simultaneously apportion a predetermined quantity of powdered medically active substance from each said storage compartment of said cartridges.
13. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 12 including means for combining the quantities apportioned by said metering slides.
14. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 12 wherein said individual cartridges each have an indexing means which only permits coupling together of preselected individual cartridges.
15. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 14 wherein said indexing means comprises mating protrusions and depressions located on respective said individual cartridges.
16. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 12 further including locking means for lockingly coupling together said individual cartridges.
17. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 16 wherein said locking means permanently couples said individual cartridges together whereby said individual cartridges cannot be separated without damaging said individual cartridges.
18. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 12 including an indicator for indicating at least one of the quantity of pharmaceutical doses remaining in one said compartment and pharmaceutical doses removed from one said compartment.
19. The cartridge apparatus according to claim 12 wherein said cartridges have mirror image symmetry.
