Abstract

A bifurcated graft is formed from a series of individual components which are intraluminally delivered apart from one another and then assembled to form a fully supported structure. The modular system includes a base member and one or more grafts connected thereto. The base member preferably includes a portion which gradually increases in diameter. A tubular device for inserting the components of the modular system and a method employing the modular system for repairing an abdominal aortic aneurysm are also disclosed.

Claims (16)

1. A device for repairing a patient's vasculature including a first section and second and third sections bifurcating therefrom, comprising:

a body, the body having a superior end portion and a bifurcated inferior end portion defining a first leg and a second leg, the first leg being longer than the second leg and the second leg having a continuously increasing diameter from an opening at a superior end of the second leg to an opening at an inferior end of the second leg, wherein the body is configured so that the first leg extends into one of the second and third sections of vasculature and the second leg terminates in the first section of vasculature; and

an extender in the form of a graft, the extender configured to mate with the first leg after the body is placed in vasculature.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the body is a tubular graft.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the extender is tubular.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the superior end of the device is configured to be placed within an aorta and the first leg is configured to be placed within an iliac artery.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first leg is configured to be received within the extender.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the extender is configured to be received within the first leg.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first leg is configured to terminate in the second section of the patient's vasculature.

8. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a support device placed within the body.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the support device is self-expanding.

10. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a support device placed within the extender.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the support device is self-expanding.

12. The device of claim 1 , further comprising radiopaque markers attached to the body.

13. The device of claim 1 , further comprising radiopaque markers attached to the extender.

14. The device of claim 1 , wherein the bifurcated body is sized to fit an aorto-iliac segment.
