Abstract

A novel gene (designated 121P1F1) and its encoded protein are described. While 121P1F1 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, it is aberrantly expressed in multiple cancers including prostate, bladder, kidney, brain, bone, cervical, uterine, ovarian, breast, pancreatic, stomach, colon, rectal, leukocytic, liver and lung cancers. Consequently, 121P1F1 provides a diagnostic and/or therapeutic target for cancers, and the 121P1F1 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein or a fragment thereof used to elicit an immune response.

Claims (7)

1. An isolated and purified protein encoded by the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1.

2. The protein of claim 1 encoded by a polynucleotide selected from the group consisting of:

(a) a polynucleotide consisting of the sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein T can also be U;

(b) a polynucleotide consisting of the sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1, from nucleotide residue number 82 through nucleotide residue number 696, wherein T can also be U; and

(c) a polynucleotide whose sequence is encoded by the cDNAs contained in the plasmids designated Escherichia coli DH10B 121P1F1A deposited with American Type Culture collection as Accession No. PTA-3139.

3. The protein of claim 1 produced by culturing a host cell containing an expression vector comprising a polynucleotide encoding the protein of claim 1 under conditions sufficient for the production of the protein, and recovering the protein so produced.

4. The protein of claim 1 , wherein the protein comprises SEQ ID NO: 2.
