Abstract

Techniques are provided for deploying applications hosted by an application service provider. An application in a first environment is automatically deployed to a second environment in response to receiving a request over a network from the party for whom the second environment is being hosted. The first environment may be an environment where applications are developed by the party over the network. Deployment of the application may entail provisioning of an environment for the application.

Claims (34)

1. A method of deploying software, the method comprising the steps of:

a first party hosting a plurality of components in a first hosted environment;

receiving over a network a request to install said plurality of components into a second hosted environment accessible to a second party over the network; and

in response to receiving said request to install, performing one or more steps that include installing said plurality of components into said second hosted environment in a manner that allows said second party to execute said plurality of components over said network.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of installing said plurality of components includes creating database objects in a database server that is to store data that will be used during execution of said plurality of components.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more steps further include provisioning said second hosted environment for said plurality of components.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the step of provisioning said second hosted environment includes configuring a database server so that said database server may be accessed by said plurality of components during said execution of said plurality of components.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said first hosted environment and other hosted environments share other resources hosted by said first party.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said second hosted environment was provisioned for a different version of said plurality of components before receiving said request.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more steps further include said second party interacting with a development tool over said network to develop said plurality of components.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the steps further include other parties interacting with said development tool over the Internet to develop other pluralities of components hosted by said first party.

9. A method of deploying software, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving over a network a request to install a plurality of components into a hosted environment accessible by a party over the network; and

in response to receiving said request to install, performing the following steps:

installing said plurality of components into said hosted environment in a manner that allows said party to execute said plurality of components over said network, and

wherein installing said plurality of components includes creating database objects in a database server.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the steps performed in response to receiving said request further include provisioning said database server.

11. A computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for deploying software, wherein execution of the one or more sequences of instructions by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

a first party hosting a plurality of components in a first hosted environment;

receiving over a network a request to install said plurality of components into a second hosted environment accessible to a second party over the network; and

in response to receiving said request to install, performing one or more steps that include installing said plurality of components into said second hosted environment in a manner that allows said second party to execute said plurality of components over said network.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the step of installing said plurality of components includes creating database objects in a database server that is to store data that will be used during execution of said plurality of components.

13. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the one or more steps further include provisioning said second hosted environment for said plurality of components.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the step of provisioning said second hosted environment includes configuring a database server so that said database server may be accessed by said plurality of components during said execution of said plurality of components.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein said first hosted environment and other hosted environments share other resources hosted by said first party.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein said second hosted environment was provisioned for a different version of said plurality of components before receiving said request.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the one or more steps further include said second party interacting with a development tool over said network to develop said plurality of components.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the steps further include other parties interacting with said development tool over the Internet to develop other pluralities of components hosted by said first party.

19. A computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for deploying software, wherein execution of the one or more sequences of instructions by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

receiving over a network a request to install a plurality of components into a hosted environment accessible by a party over the network; and

in response to receiving said request to install, performing the following steps:

installing said plurality of components into said hosted environment in a manner that allows said party to execute said plurality of components over said network, and

wherein installing said plurality of components includes creating database objects in a database server.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the steps performed in response to receiving said request further include provisioning said database server.
