Abstract

A method for testing subscriber loop conditions includes receiving test signal data from a test signal provider, receiving a request for transmitting a test signal described by the test signal data, and transmitting the test signal over a subscriber loop. The test signal may correspond to a pre-qualification test signal, a qualification test signal, or an in-service test signal. Test results may be transmitted to the test signal provider or to some other designated.

Claims (62)

1. A testing method comprising:

receiving at a first location from a plurality of locations test signal data describing a plurality of test signals, the plurality of locations being located remotely from the first location, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of the plurality of locations;

after receiving the test signal data describing the plurality of test signals, transmitting from the first location a first signal among the plurality of test signals over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, and

after receiving the test signal data describing the plurality of test signals, receiving at the first location a first request for transmitting the first signal among the plurality of test signals, wherein the first request is transmitted to the first location from a location that is remotely located from the first location and the first customer premises;

wherein the first request is transmitted from a location that is remotely located from a location among the plurality of locations from which data describing the first signal is transmitted to the first location.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein a reflection signal corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals enables testing at least one characteristic of the first subscriber loop.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said at least one characteristic corresponds to a pre-qualification test.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

5. A testing method comprising:

receiving at a first location from a plurality of locations test signal data describing a plurality of test signals, the plurality of locations being located remotely from the first location, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of the plurality of locations; and

after receiving the test signal data describing the plurality of test signals, transmitting from the first location a first signal among the plurality of test signals over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations; and

transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein said first signal among the plurality of test signals is configured to enable testing at least one characteristic of the first subscriber loop.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein each of the plurality of locations corresponds to one of a loop testing service provider, a craft tester, a loop test vendor, and a network management system (NMS).

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

receiving at the first location a responsive signal that is transmitted from the first customer premises responsive to said first signal among the plurality of test signals.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first location corresponds to a central office.

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein the method is implemented via a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).

11. The method of claim 5 , wherein a test result corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals is transmitted from the first location to a designated location that is located remotely from the first location, the plurality of locations, and the first customer premises.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the designated location is identified by a message received by the first location from said first location among the plurality of locations.

13. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

after receiving the test signal data describing the plurality of test signals, receiving at the first location a first request for transmitting the first signal among the plurality of test signals, wherein the first request is transmitted to the first location from a location that is remotely located from the first location and the first customer premises.

14. A testing system comprising:

memory located at a first location and configured to store test signal data describing a plurality of test signals, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of a plurality of locations located remotely from the first location; and

at least one processor programmed to enable transmitting from the first location a first signal among the plurality of test signals over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations;

wherein said transmitting is responsive to receiving at the first location a first request from a location that is remotely located from the first customer premises and the first location; and

wherein the first request is transmitted from a location that is remotely located from a location among the plurality of locations from which data describing the first signal is transmitted to the first location.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein a reflection signal corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals enables testing at least one characteristic of the first subscriber loop.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein said at least one characteristic corresponds to a pre-qualification test.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the first location corresponds to a central office.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the system comprises a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).

19. The system of claim 14 , wherein a test result corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals is transmitted from the first location to a designated location that is located remotely from the first location, the plurality of locations, and the first customer premises.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the designated location is identified by a message received by the first location from said first location among the plurality of locations.

21. The testing system of claim 14 , wherein said at least one processor is further programmed to enable transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

22. A testing system comprising:

means for receiving at a first location test signal data describing a plurality of test signals from a plurality of locations located remotely from the first location, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of the plurality of locations; and

means for transmitting a first signal among the plurality of test signals from the first location over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations;

wherein said means for transmitting is responsive to a first request transmitted from a location that is remotely located from the first customer premises and the first location; and

wherein the first request is transmitted from a location that is remotely located from a location among the plurality of locations from which data describing the first signal is transmitted to the first location.

23. The system of claim 22 , wherein a reflection signal corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals enables testing at least one characteristic of the first subscriber loop.

24. The system of claim 23 , wherein said at least one characteristic corresponds to a pre-qualification test.

25. The system of claim 22 , wherein the first location corresponds to a central office.

26. The system of claim 22 , wherein the system comprises a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).

27. The system of claim 22 , wherein a test result corresponding to said first signal among the plurality of test signals is transmitted from the first location to a designated location that is located remotely from the first location, the plurality of locations, and the first customer premises.

28. The system of claim 27 , wherein the designated location is identified by a message received by the first location from said first location among the plurality of locations.

29. The testing system of claim 22 , further comprising:

means for transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

30. A testing system comprising:

memory located at a first location and configured to store test signal data describing a plurality of test signals, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of a plurality of locations located remotely from the first location; and

at least one processor programmed to enable transmitting from the first location a first signal among the plurality of test signals over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations;

wherein said at least one processor is further programmed to enable transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

31. A testing system comprising:

means for receiving at a first location test signal data describing a plurality of test signals from a plurality of locations located remotely from the first location, wherein each of the test signals corresponds to test signal data received from one of the plurality of locations;

means for transmitting a first signal among the plurality of test signals from the first location over a first subscriber loop to a first customer premises located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations; and

means for transmitting from the first location a second signal among the plurality of test signals over a second subscriber loop to a second customer premises that is located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations, wherein data describing the first signal and data describing the second signal are received at the first location from different locations among the plurality of locations.

32. A testing method comprising:

receiving at a first location from a plurality of locations test signal data describing a plurality of test signals, the plurality of locations being located remotely from the first location, wherein test signal data describing each of the plurality of test signals are received at the first location from a different location than test signal data describing each other test signal among the plurality of test signals; and

after receiving the test signal data describing the plurality of test signals, transmitting from the first location the plurality of test signals over a plurality of respective subscriber loops to a plurality of respective customer premises that are located remotely from the first location and the plurality of locations.

33. The method of claim 29 , wherein each of the plurality of locations corresponds to one of a loop testing service provider, a craft tester, a loop test vendor, and a network management system (NMS).

34. The method of claim 29 , wherein the first location corresponds to a central office.

35. The method of claim 29 , wherein the method is implemented via a digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM).
