Abstract

A reflective liquid crystal display device having high reliability and excellent display is provided by preventing degradation and peeling of an organic film provided in order to impart an uneven shape to a reflective metal film. The reflective liquid crystal display has a configuration in which a liquid crystal layer is held in the space formed by a pair of substrates arranged opposing to each other and a seal member provided on the periphery portion of the substrate pair, an organic film, a reflective metal film, color filters, an overcoat film, an electrode substrate film, electrode layers, and an orientation film are laminated in order on the liquid crystal layer side of one substrate of the substrate pair, and the organic film is formed in the neighborhood region of the end of the seal member provided on the periphery portion of the aforementioned substrate.

Claims (32)

1. A reflective liquid crystal display device, comprising:

wherein an end of the outer perimeter side of the organic film is formed in a region inside an end of an outer perimeter side of the seal member provided on the periphery portion of the substrates, but outside an end of an inner perimeter side of the seal member.

2. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the end of the inner perimeter side of the seal member provided on the periphery portion of the substrate is arranged on a flat portion flattened by the overcoat film on the substrate, and the end of the outer perimeter side of the seal member is arranged on an inclined portion formed by the overcoat film surmounting the end of the organic film on the substrate.

3. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein color filters are directly formed on the reflective metal film.

4. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , wherein the organic film contains bumps and dips and is composed of a photosensitive resin.

5. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 4 , wherein a thickness of the organic film is about 1 μm to about 5 μm.

6. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 5 , wherein the overcoat film is composed of an acrylic thermosetting resin.

7. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , wherein the overcoat film is thick enough to completely bury crests of convex portions of the organic film.

8. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 3 , wherein a thickness of the overcoat film is about 1.5 μm to about 5 μm.

9. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the organic film contains bumps and dips and is composed of a photosensitive resin.

10. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 9 , wherein a thickness of the organic film is about 1 μm to about 5 μm.

11. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 10 , wherein the overcoat film is composed of an acrylic thermosetting resin.

12. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the overcoat film is thick enough to completely bury crests of convex portions of the organic film.

13. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein a thickness of the overcoat film is about 1.5 μm to about 5 μm.

14. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the depressions disposed in a random manner each have a depth within a range of about 0.1 μm to about 3 μm, adjacent depressions are separated from one another in a random manner by a distance within a range of about 5 μm to about 100 μm, and an inner face of each depression has an inclination angle set within a range of about −18 degrees to about 18 degrees.

15. The reflective liquid crystal display device, comprising:

a liquid crystal layer enclosed with a pair of substrates arranged opposing to each other and a seal member provided on the periphery portion of the pair of substrates; and

at least an organic film, a reflective metal film, an overcoat film, an electrode layer, and an orientation film laminated on the liquid crystal layer side of one substrate of the pair of substrates more distant from a viewer than the other of the pair of substrates, the organic film having a plurality of depressions disposed in a random manner,

wherein an end of an outer perimeter side of the organic film is formed in a region inside an end of an outer perimeter side of the seal member provided on the periphery portion of the substrates, but outside an end of an inner perimeter side of the seal member and wherein an outer end of the organic film is arranged in a region 0.3 mm to 0.8 mm inside the end of the outer perimeter side of the seal member.

16. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 15 , wherein the organic film contains bumps and dips and is composed of a photosensitive resin.

17. The reflective liquid crystal display device according to claim 16 , wherein a thickness of the organic film is about 1 μm to about 5 μm.
