Abstract

A system and method captures image data in association with the operation of an automated banking machine. Image data associated with users and documents may be acquired, analyzed and transferred. Images may be captured responsive to programmed sequences. The sequences may be performed on a periodic basis as well as in response to inputs corresponding to alarm conditions and transactions conducted at automated banking machines or other devices. Image data may also be captured in response to image conditions including the sensing of motion or the loss of usable video from selected cameras. Image data may be stored in connection with data corresponding to circumstances associated with each triggering event. Stored image data may be searched by one or more parameters. Parameters may include data stored in association with each image, types of events causing image data to be stored, as well as other image conditions and properties.

9. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the transaction receipt comprises a paycheck.

10. The machine apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the transaction receipt includes an electronic signature.

11. The apparatus according to claim 2 and further comprising:

at least one input device on the machine, wherein the at least one input device is adapted to receive at least one input from the machine user indicative that the at least one image captured by the camera comprises an electronic signature.

12. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the transaction receipt includes thereon the at least one image, and wherein the machine is operative to dispense the transaction receipt including the at least one image thereon from the machine to the machine user.

13. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the at least one image comprises a visual representation of the user's face.

14. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the transaction receipt includes machine readable indicia.

15. A method comprising:

(a) acquiring at least one image of at least a portion of a machine user while the machine user is at an automated banking machine during a financial transaction carried out by the machine user through operation of the machine;

(b) operating the machine to produce at least one document which:

provides evidence that the machine user was at the machine during the financial transaction, and

includes both:

financial transaction data corresponding to the financial transaction, and

the at least one image acquired in step (a);

(c) issuing from the machine, the at least one document produced in step (b).

16. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (a) the at least one image is acquired through operation of a camera.

17. The method according to claim 15 wherein the machine includes a biometric reading device, and further comprising:

(d) operating the biometric reading device to read biometric user data;

wherein in step (a) the at least one image is acquired responsive to step (d).

18. The method according to claim 15 wherein the at least one document produced in step (b) includes thereon the at least one image acquired in step (a), wherein step (c) includes dispensing the at least one document from the machine to the machine user.

19. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document comprises a receipt for the financial transaction, wherein the receipt includes thereon the at least one image acquired in step (a).

20. The method according to claim 15 wherein step (c) includes issuing a check from the machine, and wherein the at least one image acquired in step (a) is included on the check.

21. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document includes an electronic signature.

22. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document includes machine readable indicia.

23. The method according to claim 16 and further comprising:

(d) storing data in a data store in operative connection with the machine;

wherein in step (b) the at least one document is produced responsive to data stored in the data store.

24. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document comprises a ticket.

25. The method according to claim 24 wherein the at least one document comprises an airline ticket.

26. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document comprises a coupon.

27. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document comprises a document redeemable for change from the financial transaction.

28. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one document comprises a paycheck.

29. The method according to claim 15 wherein the machine includes a cash dispenser device, and further comprising:

(d) operating the cash dispenser device to dispense cash from the machine;

wherein the financial transaction comprises a cash withdraw transaction, wherein the financial transaction data corresponds to an amount of cash dispensed in step (d), and wherein the at least one document comprises a transaction receipt for the cash withdraw transaction.

30. The method according to claim 15 wherein in step (b) the at least one image comprises a visual representation of the user's face.
