Process of making a compound by forming a polymer from a template drug
View Patent ↗A method of forming polymers in the presence of nucleic acid using template polymerization. Also, a method of having the polymerization occur in heterophase systems. These methods can be used for the delivery of nucleic acids, for condensing the nucleic acid, for forming nucleic acid binding polymers, for forming supramolecular complexes containing nucleic acid and polymer, and for forming an interpolyelectrolyte complex.
1. A synthetic copolymer containing a repeating unit comprising:
[AB] n
wherein
A is an amine-containing monomer having affinity for nucleic acid via electrostatic interaction;
B is an aminoreactive co-monomer; and,
n is greater than or equal to 2.
2. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the amine-containing monomer consists of a diamine monomer.
3. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the amine-reactive co-monomer consists of a bifunctional amine-reactive co-monomer.
4. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the aminoreactive group of the co-monomer is selected from the list consisting of: succinimide ester, N-hydroxysuccinimide ester, maleimides, imido ester, anhydride, phenyl azide, and aryl halide.
5. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is able to condense a nucleic acid.
6. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the polymer is formed in the presence of a nucleic acid.
7. The polymer of claim 1 wherein forming the polymer results in condensation of the nucleic acid.
8. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the co-monomer contains a cleavable bond.
9. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the amine monomer contains a cleavable bond.
