Abstract

A light-emitting device comprising a pair of electrodes and one or more organic layers disposed between the electrodes, the one or more organic layers comprising a light-emitting layer. At least one of the organic layers comprises a transition metal complex containing a moiety represented by the following formula (1): wherein M 11 represents a transition metal ion; and R 11 , R 12 , R 13 , R 14 , R 15 , R 16 and R 17 represent a substituent or a single bond, respectively, or a tautomer thereof.

Claims (8)

1. A light-emitting device comprising a pair of electrodes and one or more organic layers disposed between said electrodes, said one or more organic layers comprising a light-emitting layer, wherein at least one of said one or more organic layers comprises a transition metal complex containing a moiety represented by the following formula (8):

wherein M 81 is a metal ion selected from the group consisting of ruthenium, rhodium, tungsten, rhenium, osmium, iridium and platinum; Q 81 represents an atomic group forming a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring; and R 81 and R 82 represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alkenyl or alkoxy group, respectively.

2. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein M 81 is a metal ion selected from the group consisting of ruthenium, rhenium, iridium and platinum.

3. The light-emitting device of claim 2 , wherein M 81 is iridium.

4. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the maximum emission wavelength of the transition metal complex containing a moiety represented by the formula (8) is from 380 to 500 nm.

5. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the transition metal complex containing a moiety represented by the formula (8) serves as a light-emitting material or an electron-transporting material.

6. The light-emitting device of claim 5 , wherein the transition metal complex containing a moiety represented by the formula (8) serves as a light-emitting material.

7. The light-emitting device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one of said one or more organic layers further comprises a host compound.
