Abstract

Consonant jamos of the Korean language are grouped according to appearance and each group is associated with a respective key of a reduced keypad. Vowel jamos are specified by the user using a number of keys reserved for vowels and each of which represents a respective category of strokes by which the vowel jamo would normally be written.

Claims (7)

1. A method for generating Korean text in response to signals generated by a user, the method comprising:

receiving signals generated by the user which specify one or more collections, each of which includes one or more consonant jamos wherein the collections are organized according to appearance of consonant jamos;

receiving signals generated by the user which specify one or more stroke types by which one or more vowel jamos are identified;

determining that one or more predicted hanguls according to a sequence of the signals generated by the user; and

presenting the one or more predicted hanguls to the user for selection.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein determining comprises:

determining one or more word continuation hanguls according to the sequence and according to one or more accepted hanguls which have been previously specified by the user.
