Abstract

Broadly this invention provides an invention which is inbred corn line G0502. The methods for producing a corn plant by crossing the inbred line G0502 are also encompassed by the invention. Additionally, the invention relates to the various parts of inbred G0502 including culturable cells. This invention relates to hybrid corn seeds and plants produced by crossing the inbred line G0502 with at least one other corn line.

Claims (15)

1. Seed of inbred corn line designated G0502, a representative seed of said line deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7460.

2. A corn plant produced by growing the seed of claim 1 .

3. A tissue culture of regenerable cells produced from the corn plant of claim 2 .

4. The tissue culture according to claim 3 , wherein the regenerable cells are from a tissue selected from the group consisting of: leaf, pollen, embryo, root, root tip, meristem, ovule, anther, silk, flower, kernel, ear, cob, husk and stalk.

5. A corn plant regenerated from the tissue culture of claim 3 , wherein the regenerated plant has all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred corn line G0502, a representative sample of seed of said line deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7460.

6. A method of producing hybrid seed comprising the following steps:

(a) planting seeds of corn inbred line G0502, a representative sample of seed which has been deposited under ATCC accession number PTA-7460 and another inbred line, one of said inbred lines not releasing pollen;

(b) allowing cross pollination to occur between said inbred lines; and

(d) harvesting seed produced on the non-pollen releasing inbred.

7. A method of producing hybrid seed comprising crossing the corn plant according to claim 2 with a different corn plant, and harvesting the resultant hybrid seed.

8. A method of producing a transgenic corn plant comprising transforming the corn plant of claim 2 with a transgene encoding protein that confers herbicide resistance, disease resistance, or insect resistance.

9. A method of producing a transgenic disease resistant corn plant comprising transforming the corn plant of claim 2 with a transgene encoding protein that confers disease resistance.

10. A transgenic resistant corn plant produced by the method of claim 8 .

11. Pollen of the corn plant of claim 2 .

12. A transgenic disease resistant corn plant produced by the method of claim 9 .
