Anti-angiogenic compositions and methods of use
View Patent ↗The present invention provides compositions comprising an anti-angiogenic factor, and a polymeric carrier. Representative examples of anti-angiogenic factors include Anti-Invasive Factor, Retinoic acids and derivatives thereof, and paclitaxel. Also provided are methods for embolizing blood vessels, and eliminating biliary, urethral, esophageal, and tracheal/bronchial obstructions.
1. A method for embolizing a blood vessel, comprising delivering into said vessel a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a compound which disrupts microtubule function, wherein said compound is paclitaxel, or an analogue or derivative thereof, such that said blood vessel is effectively occluded.
2. The method according to claim 1 wherein said paclitaxel, or an analogue or derivative thereof is paclitaxel.
3. The method according to claim 1 or 2 wherein said composition further comprises a polymeric carrier.
4. The method according to claim 3 wherein said composition is formed into microspheres.
5. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) crosslinked with 40% vinyl acetate.
6. The method according to claim 3 , wherein said polymeric carrier is poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid).
7. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is poly(caprolactone).
8. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is poly(lactic acid).
9. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is a copolymer of poly(lactic acid) and poly(caprolactone).
10. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is a copolymer of poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) crosslinked with 40% vinyl acetate, and poly(lactic acid).
11. The method according to claim 1 or 2 wherein said blood vessel nourishes a tumor.
12. The method according to claim 1 or 2 wherein said blood vessel nourishes a non-tumorigenic, angiogenesis-dependent disease.
13. The method according to claim 3 wherein said blood vessel nourishes a tumor.
14. The method according to claim 3 wherein said blood vessel nourishes a non-tumorigenic, angiogenesis-dependent disease.
15. The method according to claim 3 wherein said polymeric carrier is biodegradable.
