Compositions containing antimicrobials and urea for the treatment of dermatological disorders and methods for their use
View Patent ↗Topical compositions which include urea and an antimicrobial agent, particularly sulfacetamide, are described. Sulfacetamide compositions further including sulfur are also described. Methods for treating dermatological disorders using the compositions are also described.
1. A method for treating a dermatological disorder selected from the group consisting of acne, psoriasis, seborrhea, rosacea, ingrown hairs, pseudofolliculitis barbae, and hyperpigmented skin comprising applying a topical composition consisting essentially of:
an amount of urea effective as an antimicrobial agent;
an amount of sulfacetamide or a salt thereof; and
a carrier wherein the amount of urea is from about 10 to about 40% by weight.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of sulfacetamide or a salt thereof is from about 5 to about 20% by weight.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermatological disorder is acne.
4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the dermatological disorder is acne.
