Abstract

The invention concerns a device comprising an implant ( 18 ) designed to be inserted at least partially between the vertebral bodies ( 4, 4 ′) of two neighbouring vertebrae, said implant ( 18 ) being adapted to provide to said neighbouring vertebral bodies ( 4, 4 ′) at least one degree of mutual freedom, said device further comprising at least an extra-discal member ( 20 ), arranged behind the intervertebral space ( 12 ), adapted to damp a movement between said vertebrae ( 2, 2 ′), at least in the intervertebral flexion direction.

Claims (12)

1. An intervertebral stabilization device, comprising:

an implant having two chambers, the implant being operable to be inserted at least partially between two vertebral bodies and maintain at least one mutual degree of freedom of the vertebral bodies when inserted therebetween;

an extra-discal member having two chambers separated by a piston and being operable to be disposed posterior to said implant when said implant is at least partially positioned between the vertebral bodies, the extra-discal member being configured to dampen displacement between the vertebral bodies at least in an intervertebral flexion direction when disposed posterior to said implant;

said chambers of said implant and said chambers of the extra-discal member containing a fluid; and

wherein the device further comprises means for placing said chambers of said implant and said chambers of said extra-discal member in fluidic communication said means including a first conduit providing fluid communication between one of said chambers of said implant and one of said chambers of said extra-discal member in a first direction and a second conduit providing fluid communication between another of said chambers of said implant and another of said chambers of said extra-discal member in a second direction.

2. A device according to claim 1 , further comprising a deformable chamber wall.

3. An intervertebral stabilization device, comprising:

an implant having two chambers separated by a porous element, the implant being operable to be inserted at least partially between two vertebral bodies and maintain at least one mutual degree of freedom of the vertebral bodies when inserted therebetween;

an extra-discal member having two chambers separated by a piston and being operable to be disposed posterior to said implant when said implant is at least partially positioned between the vertebral bodies, the extra-discal member being configured to dampen displacement between the vertebral bodies at least in an intervertebral flexion direction when the extra-discal member is disposed posterior to said implant;

said chambers of said implant and said chambers of said extra-discal member containing a fluid; and

wherein the device further comprises means for placing said chambers of said implant and said chambers of said extra-discal member in fluidic communication, said means including a first conduit providing fluid communication between one of said chambers of said implant and one of said chambers of said extra-discal member in a first direction and a second conduit providing fluid communication between another of said chambers of said implant and another of said chambers of said extra-discal member in a second direction.

4. A device according to claim 3 , further comprising a deformable chamber wall.
