Abstract

A system massages a user's feet and generates an electro-kinetic airflow that contains safe amounts of ozone that can deodorize the user's feet or socks. The system includes an ion generator comprising a high voltage pulse generator whose output pulses are coupled between left and right first and second electrode arrays. Preferably the first electrode array includes first and second pointed electrodes, and the second electrode array includes annular-like electrodes having a central opening coaxial with the associated pointed electrode. Preferably the annular-like electrodes are formed from a single sheet of metal by extrusion or punching such that the surface of the annular-like electrodes is smooth and continuous through the opening and into a collar region through which the air flows. Particulate matter in the ambient air electrostatically adheres to the smooth continuous surface of the annular-like electrodes.

Claims (68)

1. An electro-kinetic air transporter-conditioner apparatus comprising:

a first electrode having a plurality of points;

a second electrode including downstream surface and an upstream surface and a plurality of openings provided therein corresponding to the plurality of points;

wherein a downstream direction is defined in the direction of said first electrode toward said second electrode; and

wherein the second electrode further includes a curved transition region from the upstream surface to a collar of one or more of said plurality of openings;

wherein said collar projects from said second electrode in the downstream direction; and

a voltage generator operably connected to said first electrode and said second electrode.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:

said plurality of points includes a plurality of pins.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein:

said plate of said second electrode includes a plate of metal.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said opening are rings.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said openings are circular.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the spacing between said points is about the same as said spacing between said openings.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said point is about the spaced-apart distance between adjacent said openings.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said point is identical to a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said openings.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said second electrode is smooth.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said collar is smooth.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said second electrode is smooth so that the second electrode can be wiped clean.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said collar is smooth so that the collar can be wiped clean.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said plurality or points of said first electrode is formed as a column.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said plurality of openings of said second electrode is formed as a column.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said points are cone-shaped.

16. The apparatus of claim 1 including a housing including an inlet located adjacent to said first electrode and an outlet located adjacent to said second electrode.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said second electrode is formed from a continuous plate.

18. An electro-kinetic air transporter-conditioner apparatus that is convenient to clean comprising:

a first electrode having a plurality of points;

a second electrode including a plurality of openings provided therein and wherein said second electrode is smooth in order to facilitate cleaning;

wherein a downstream direction is defined in the direction of said first electrode toward said second electrode;

wherein one or more of said plurality of openings includes a collar extending downstream from said opening; and

a voltage generator operably connected to said first electrode and said second electrode.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein:

said plurality of points includes a plurality of pins.

20. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein:

said second electrode includes a plate of metal.

21. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said openings are rings.

22. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said openings are circular.

23. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein the spacing between said points is about the same as said spacing between said openings.

24. The apparatus or claim 18 wherein a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said point is about the spaced-apart distance between adjacent said openings.

25. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said point is identical to a spaced-apart distance between adjacent said openings.

26. The apparatus or claim 18 wherein said collar is smooth.

27. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said second electrode is smooth so that the second electrode can be wiped clean.

28. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said plurality of points of said first electrode is formed as a column.

29. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said plurality of points of said second electrode is formed as a column.

30. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said points are cone-shaped.

31. The apparatus of claim 18 including a housing including an inlet located adjacent to said first electrode and an outlet located adjacent to said second electrode.

32. The apparatus of claim 18 wherein said second electrode is formed from a continuous plate.

33. An electro-kinetic air transporter-conditioner apparatus comprising:

a first electrode having a plurality of points;

a second electrode including a plurality of openings provided therein;

wherein at least some of said openings include a collar;

wherein said collar is pointed a way from said first electrode;

wherein said plate of said second electrode is smooth; and

a voltage generator operably connected to said first electrode and said second electrode.

34. The apparatus of claim 33 wherein:

said plurality of points includes a plurality of pins.
