Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing subscribers with an integrated message processing system. The method and apparatus include a first remote client, where a subscriber performs a registration process from the first remote client, the registration process being permissible after the subscriber provides access information. Furthermore, a second remote client allows use thereof without requiring a subscriber to respect the registration process.

Claims (26)

1. A message processing system, comprising:

(a) a first remote client, wherein a subscriber performs a registration process with said message processing system, said registration process performed between said first remote client and said message processing system after said subscriber provides access information to said message processing system and after the message processing system determines that the registration process is necessary, wherein said access information includes an identification and a password wherein both identification and password are generated by said subscriber, and wherein the registration process requires the subscriber to provide subscriber profile information, the subscriber profile information including the subscriber's name, telephone number, and a new password;

(b) a second remote client separate from said first remote client, wherein said subscriber can use said second remote client to access said message processing system without repeating the registration process, wherein accessing the message processing system is accomplished through a user interface portion of the message processing system downloaded to the second remote client; and

(c) a display that presents message information for all message types accessible to said subscriber, the message types including voice mail, facsimile, pages, and electronic mail.

2. The message processing system of claim 1 , wherein the message information includes the message type.

3. The message processing system of claim 1 , wherein the message information includes a message state.

4. The message processing system of claim 1 , wherein the message information includes a message status.

5. The message processing system of claim 1 , wherein the message information includes a message date and time.

6. A method of allowing a subscriber to use a message processing system from a plurality of locations comprising:

(a) initiating the message processing system on a remote client;

(b) authenticating that the subscriber is registered by verifying the subscriber's username and password;

(c) registering the subscriber if the subscriber is not already registered, the registering including requiring the subscriber to provide subscriber profile information, the subscriber profile information including the subscriber's name, telephone number, and a new password;

(d) downloading a user interface portion of the message processing system if the user interface portion of the message processing system is not already resident on the remote client, the downloaded interface portion thereby being rendered resident on the remote client; and

(e) displaying message information for all message types accessible to said subscriber, the message types including voice mail, facsimile, pages, and electronic mail.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the message information includes the message type.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the message information includes a message state.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the message information includes a message status.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein the message information includes a message date and time.

11. A message processing system, comprising:

(a) a first remote client, wherein a subscriber connected to a voice mail system component of said message processing system performs a registration process from said first remote client, said registration process being performed after said subscriber provides access information and after the message processing system determines that the registration process is necessary, wherein said access information includes an identification and a password wherein both identification and password are generated by said subscriber, and wherein the registration process requires the subscriber to provide subscriber profile information, the subscriber profile information including the subscriber's name, telephone number, and a new password;

(b) a second remote client separate from said first remote client, wherein said subscriber can use said second remote client without repeating the registration process and without requiring further modification to said second remote client by updating a user interface portion of the message processing system, unless the message processing system determines that the further modification is necessary or that the subscriber is a new subscriber; and

(c) a display that presents message information for all message types accessible to said subscriber, the message types including voice mail, facsimile, pages, and electronic mail.

12. The message processing system of claim 11 , wherein the message information includes the message type.

13. The message processing system of claim 11 , wherein the message information includes a message state.

14. The message processing system of claim 11 , wherein the message information includes a message status.

15. The message processing system of claim 11 , wherein the message information includes a message date and time.
