Abstract

A jettable non-curable support material composition useful for three-dimensional ink jet printing comprising at least one fatty alcohol and at least one abietic rosin ester alcohol, wherein the support material has a melting point between about 50° C. to about 65° C. and a freezing point between about 45° C. to about 55° C.

Claims (11)

1. A non-curable support material composition useful for three-dimensional ink jet printing to help create a part formed from a build material, the non-curable support material consisting of at least one jettable fatty alcohol of the structure C n H 2n+1 OH having a melting point between about 50° C. to about 65° C. and a freezing point between about 45° C. to about 55° C. and a jettable rosin ester, the support material composition having a melting point higher than uncured build material used to form the part and a viscosity at about 80° C. from about 10.0 to about 19.0 centipoise.

2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is from about 60% to about 80% by weight of the composition.

3. The composition of claim 2 wherein the rosin ester is from about 20% to about 40% by weight of the composition.

4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is from about 65% to about 75% by weight of the composition.

5. The composition of claim 4 wherein the rosin ester is from about 25% to about 35% by weight of the composition.

6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is about 70% by weight of the composition.

7. The composition of claim 6 wherein the rosin ester is about 30% by weight of the composition.

8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is a combination of fatty alcohols of the structure C n H 2n+1 OH wherein n is an integer from about 12 to about 22.

9. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is selected from the group consisting of hexadecanol, octadecanol and combinations thereof.

10. The composition of claim 1 wherein the fatty alcohol is hexadecanol of the structure C 16 H 33 OH or octadecanol of the structure C 18 H 37 OH.

11. A non-curable support material composition useful for three-dimensional ink jet printing to help create a part formed from a build material, the non-curable support material being jettable separately from the build material and of a different composition, the build material and support material composition being jettable at a temperature of about 80° C., the support material composition consisting of at least one jettable fatty alcohol of the structure C n H 2n+1 OH having a melting point between about 50° C. to about 65° C. and a freezing point between about 45° C. to about 55° C. and a jettable rosin ester, the support material composition having a melting point higher than uncured build material used to form the part and a viscosity at about 80° C. from about 10.0 to about 19.0 centipoise.
