Pain treatment by peripheral administration of a neurotoxin
View Patent ↗Methods for treating a non-spasm caused pain by peripheral administration to a patient of a therapeutically effective amount of a neurotoxin, such as a botulinum toxin.
1. A method for alleviating neuralgia, the method comprising the step of peripheral administration of an effective amount of a botulinum toxin to a human patient for a time effective to alleviate neuralgia pain, wherein the pain treated is not associated with a headache.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is selected from the group consisting of botulinum toxin types A, B, C 1 , D, E, F and G.
3. The method for alleviating neuralgia, the method comprising the step of peripheral administration of an effective amount of the botulinum toxin type A to a human patient for a time effective to alleviate neuralgia pain, Wherein the pain treated is not associated with a headache.
4. A method for treating pain that occurs after a surgical procedure, the method comprising the step of peripheral administration of an effective amount of a botulinum toxin before, during or immediately after a surgical procedures wherein the surgical procedure is not carried out to treat a muscle spasm and wherein the surgical procedure is selected from the group consisting of a tumor removal, a bone graft, a bone replacement, an exploratory surgery, a wound closure, a cosmetic surgery, a dermal incision and a non-muscle disorder treatment surgical procedure.

A method for treating pain that occurs after a surgical procedure, the method comprising the step of peripheral administration of an effective amount of a botulinum toxin type A before, during or immediately after a surgical procedure, wherein the surgical procedure is not carried out to treat a muscle spasm and wherein the surgical procedure is selected from the group consisting of a tumor removal, a bone graft, a bone replacement, an exploratory surgery, a wound closure, a cosmetic surgery, a dermal incision and a non-muscle disorder treatment surgical procedure.

A method for treating visceral pain the method comprising the step of non-systemic, local administration of an effective amount of a botulinum toxin, thereby alleviating a visceral pain, wherein the visceral pain is selected from the group consisting of abdominal, a digestive system pain, a respiratory system pain, a urogenital system pain, an endocrine system pain, a spleen pain, a heart pain, a vessel pain, a pancreatic pain, an intestinal pain, and a stomach pain, and wherein the pain treated is not associated with a headache.
7. A method for treating visceral pain the method comprising the step of non-systemic, local administration of an effective amount of a botulinum toxin type A, thereby alleviating a visceral pain, wherein the visceral pain is selected from the group consisting of abdominal pain, a digestive system pain, a respiratiory system pain, a urogenital system pain, an endocrine systems pain, a spleen pain, a heart pain, a vessel pain, a pancreatic pain, an intestinal pain, and a stomach pain, and wherein the pain treated is not assciated with a headache.
