Compositions containing aromatic aldehydes and their use in treatments
View Patent ↗Disclosed are pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions containing aromatic aldehyde compounds. Some of the disclosed compositions are useful as topical therapeutics for treating inflammatory dermatologic conditions. Some of the compositions are useful in transdermal and other systemic dose forms for treating other inflammatory conditions in mammals.
1. A topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition comprising (1) a pharmaceutically or cosmetically acceptable topical carrier selected from the group consisting of a lotion, a gel, an ointment, a paste, a suspension and a cream and (2) an effective skin inflammation-alleviating amount of a benzaldehyde selected from the group consisting of 2-ethoxybenzaldehyde, 4-ethoxybenzaldehyde, 4-propoxybenzaldehyde, 4-butoxybenzaldehyde, 4-pentyloxybenzaldehyde, 4-hexyloxybenzaldehyde, and 4-allyloxybenzaldehyde, wherein the pharmaceutical composition or cosmetic composition alleviates inflammation when applied to inflamed skin, and wherein the pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition is contained in a container.
2. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 2-ethoxybenzaldehyde.
3. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-ethoxybenzaldehyde.
4. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-propoxybenzaldehyde.
5. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-butoxybenzaldehyde.
6. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-pentyloxybenzaldehyde.
7. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-hexyloxybenzaldehyde.
8. The composition of claim 1 wherein the carrier is a lotion carrier.
9. The composition of claim 1 wherein the carrier is a cream carrier.
10. The topical pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition of claim 1 , wherein the benzaldehyde is 4-allyloxybenzaldehyde.
