Abstract

A method of optimizing the delivery of a set of data elements to a device, the set of data elements further comprising a metadata portion. The method further includes determining a source of each element of the set of data elements, and creating a set of rules for transforming the set of data elements from a first representation to a second representation, based in part on the metadata. The method further includes transferring the set of data elements from the source to a first computer, transforming the set of data elements, based in part on the set of rules, and delivering the second representation to the device. Thereafter, the method includes monitoring the source for a change to the set of data elements. And, if required, the method further includes transferring the change from the source to the first computer.

Claims (19)

1. A method of optimizing the delivery of a set of data elements, said set of data elements further comprising a metadata portion, comprising:

determining a source of said set of data elements;

creating a set of rules for transforming said set of data elements from a first representation to a second representation, based in part on said metadata;

transferring said set of data elements from said source to a first computer;

transforming said set of data elements, based in part on said set of rules, from said first representation to said second representation;

ascertaining if a first designated wireless device is present on said network based on status information received via said network;

if said first designated wireless device is present on said network, streaming said second representation of said set of data elements and of subsequent changes to said set of data elements from said first computer to said first designated wireless device, wherein said streaming is performed without requiring a prior request for said streaming from said first designated wireless device; and

if said first designated wireless device is ascertained to be not present on said network based on said information received via said network, streaming said second representation of said set of data elements and of subsequent changes to said set of data elements from said first computer to a second designated wireless device, wherein said streaming said second representation of said any change to said set of data elements to either said first designated wireless device or said second designated wireless device occurs substantially in real time with respect to said any change.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said source is an OLTP application.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said source is an operational data store application.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said source is a data warehouse application.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said source is an OLAP application.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said source is a messaging and queuing application.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein in said transferring steps, a batch method of transfer is used.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein in said streaming steps, a trickle method of transfer is used.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein said second representation is an active report.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein in said second representation is an alert.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein said alert is a SMS message.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein said alert is an email message.
