Abstract

A method for querying message information includes assigning a unique identifier to a message transmitted in a wireless network, providing the unique identifier to a wireless device associated with the message, receiving the unique identifier in a query request, and retrieving the message information from the wireless network based on the unique identifier.

Claims (47)

1. A method for querying message information concerning a message transmitted via a wireless messaging network from one party to another party, comprising:

assigning a unique identifier to the message transmitted from the one party to the other party;

providing the unique identifier to a wireless device associated with the message, whereby the party using the wireless device can enter the unique identifier to provide a query request for the message information concerning the message transmitted from the one party to the other party;

receiving the unique identifier in the query request from one of the parties concerning the message; and

retrieving the message information from the wireless network based on the unique identifier, wherein the message information concerns an aspect of the message other than message content.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

displaying the message information on a web page.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

sending the message information to the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein assigning the unique identifier further comprises:

storing the unique identifier in a data structure along with the message information.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein providing the unique identifier further comprises:

displaying the unique identifier on a web page.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein providing the unique identifier further comprises:

displaying the unique identifier on the wireless device.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein retrieving the message information further comprises:

reading the message information from a data structure within the wireless network; and

forwarding the message information to the wireless device.

8. A system for querying message information concerning a message transmitted via a wireless messaging network from one party to another party, comprising:

a computer device for assigning a unique identifier to the message transmitted from the one party to the other party, receiving the unique identifier in a query request from one of the parties concerning the message, and retrieving the message information from the wireless network based on the unique identifier, wherein the message information concerns an aspect of the message other than message content; and

a communications device for providing the unique identifier to a wireless device associated with the message, whereby the party using the wireless device can enter the unique identifier to provide the query request for the message information concerning the message transmitted from the one party to the other party.

9. The system of claim 8 further comprising:

a display device for displaying the message information on a web page.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein the communications device is further configured to send the message information to a wireless device.

11. The system of claim 8 further comprising:

a database for storing the unique identifier in a data structure along with the message information.

12. The system of claim 8 further comprising:

a display device for displaying the unique identifier on a web page.

13. The system of claim 11 wherein the computer device is further operable to:

read the message information from the database; and

forward the message information to the wireless device.

14. A computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed on a programmed processor, carry out a method for querying message information concerning a message transmitted via a wireless messaging network from one party to another party, comprising:

instructions for assigning a unique identifier to a message transmitted in a wireless network from one party to another party;

instructions for providing the unique identifier to a wireless device associated with the message, whereby the party using the wireless device can enter the unique identifier to provide a query request for the message information concerning the message transmitted from the one party to the other party;

instructions for receiving the unique identifier in the query request concerning the message; and

instructions for retrieving message information concerning the message from the wireless network based on the unique identifier, wherein the message information concerns an aspect of the message other than message content.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 further having instructions for displaying the message information on a web page.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 further having instructions for sending the message information to the wireless device.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 wherein the instructions for assigning the unique identifier further comprises:

instructions for storing the unique identifier in a data structure along with the message information.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 wherein the instructions for providing the unique identifier further comprises:

instructions for displaying the unique identifier on a web page.

19. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 wherein the instructions for providing the unique identifier further comprises:

instructions for displaying the unique identifier on the wireless device.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 14 wherein the instructions for retrieving the message information further comprises:

instructions for reading the message information from a data structure within the wireless network; and

instructions for forwarding the message information to the wireless device.
